definite podium finish
Desiree Ficker - Triathlete converted Marathoner - 2nd American at NYC 11/3/2009 7:35AM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
job well done. If she can chip some minutes off that marathon PR she'll be a contender at the olympic trials.

2:39 was her time.

I wonder what this will do to the whole "triathletes suck at running so they need to do three sports mediocre" attitude.

She is not too bad looking if you are into a chick that could kick your ass.

do your homework,
she was a runner first,
a rich kid who has had access to everything.
it was her running skill that allowed her to excel at triathlons.

but, you are not born with a stamp on your head that reads Triathlete or Runner. You are either a hard-working talent or not - with free will.

is this a joke? at the trials all of the top American runners line up together at the same time unlike a dilluted race like NYC. Don't you remember how the last trials worked out for her? A top 15 finish may happen but top 3 will never.

She's not a marathoner. She ran it because she was not fit enough to do Kona. Her mom died and she nursed her for a while before that, so she didn't have enough fitness for a full ironman.

She has no interest in becoming a marathoner and doesn't train like one, even for the NYC marathon. She did pretty well (top 10 in a mediocre field) for a non runner. She typically maxes out in the 80 miles per week-not averages-peak mileage in the 80s for ironman training. I think I read somewhere that she did pop in a couple of 100 mile weeks after her last 70.3 win to get ready for the marathon. She doesn't usually even run everyday.

I supposed if she dropped the ironman stuff she might get into the high 220s after a year or two, but that would be stupid of her. So what if she could make the US team, which is debatable. She's able to compete for the best in the world in ironman, and she's at best a top ten american in the marathon.

You're an idiot. She has absolutely done NOTHING in triathlon since her 2nd. That was a fluke year. The competition has dropped her since then...too many fast women for her to ever even hope to go top 5 in Kona again.

Yes, she'd done nothing. Err, except podium every 70.3 she did this year (4). So I think she'd likely back in form. I agree that while she might make the top ten, she has no way of breaking top five.

However, you are an idiot or a poor reader, since this was not my point. My point was that she can compete in the WORLD for ironmans (and 70.3) and she'd be struggling to do top 10 US in the marathon. 6th or 8 in the world at Kona is better than 153rd in the world marathon champs. (or worse probably.)

The 70.3 results mean crap. The fields can be very watered down...in 2010 there will be 40 official 70.3 races.
