it depends on the course. But all road 50ks and 50 milers would be demolished. It would be interesting to see what he could do western states, san juan solistice and other trail ultras. he would probably crush those too now that I think about it. |

Have him run one and we'll all find out. |

At first I was thinking: no way will Geb ever run one. But then I remembered: Geb LOVES setting records! With that mind, I would not be shocked if he did go after some of the "shorter" ultra records someday since they are certainly softer than his marathon record, and he could certainly get some of them. |

Didn't look, but does the IAAF keep any ultra records? 100k maybe? |

I would like see him run the Comrades race in South Africa. That seems to be the only ultra that interests the top marathoners in the world. Hendrick Rammala has said that he will run comrades before his carreer is over. |

There is no money in ultras. |

There would be if Haile was running one. |

Let's just say he'd break down if he attempted Dean's 50 in 50. |

But would there be more money than he could get from a marathon? Certainly there would be some interest which would draw money but marathons have much larger budgets. |

Honstly, I don't want to find out, because we had to read myriads of underdog-ultrarunners-finally-getting-attention-threads. |

I think Dean K could beat him at anything over 30 miles on trails but it would prob be somewhat close. Marathons and ultras are very different. Dean has been running long on trails for quite some time. I think Geb would be out of his element but because he is Geb, he would make a race of it. |

Geb would never run ultras, because he would get ridiculed on LR. |

I'd be a prescriber of the theory that MAYBE one of the top ultra guys might be able to take out Geb on a technical trail. But you could give Geb a cinder block to carry around and he'd still beat Deano. |

100k is the longest (and only) ultra distance listed on their site. Holder of the WR has a 2:10 marathon PR, which came after his 100k record. http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/country=JPN/athcode=50037/index.html |

I'm guessing if he started running on the trails he would demolish many of them. Uli Steidl is a 2:13 marathoner and started running 50Ks and 50 milers and has run away from almost everyone. He is unlike other ultra runners though and doesn't run a ton of races. |

bearing in mind that the Ethiopeans do all their training off road I think Geb would do better in a trail race than many people think. IAAF have a 100k record of 6:13xx by some Japanes dude, I think if he trained for that Geb would go close to if not sub 6hrs, although I wouldnt bet my house on it. He would smash the 50k record though, whatever it is. I wanna see Geb v DK in a Tour de France style 50 in 50 battle, greatest ever disttance runner V greatest ever human being and all. |

Not a chance in the world that Dean would beat Geb at a 50k, 50 miler or 100k, even if it was on the trails. Geb runs can run a marathon in 125 minutes or less, I doubt Dean could get under 165 minutes. That's around a minute and 20 seconds faster per mile or a bit more than 20% faster. That's a ton. I race short stuff and ultras and the correlation between being fast at shorter stuff and fast at longer stuff is extremely strong. At 100 miles things change because of the need for calories and some people just can't eat and run well. |

At 100+ miles, Dean > Geb. |
