Please give up the marathon. It has become brutal. You need to either change your coach or stick to the short stuff. Simmons does a good job at the 5k-half marathon but not beyond that.

Not true. I care a lot about Meb. He is one of my favorite East Africans. I also believe that Fasil (another eat african) is a good guy. It is painful watching him suffer through the marathon.

but if he won the US trials at 10k, you would be on here spewing about how an african won the US trials, not a "real american."

Scott Simmons is not good for Fasil. His training is crazy and unsuccessful with times to prove it.

What is his training like?

I went to his Distance Summit Charlotte last January. He seems to make his own facts and statistics to sway in his favor. To be honest nothing he said has any real grounds to stand on.

I give him credit for trying, but feel he lacks the fundamental background and knowledge that a coach speaking to the public should obtain.

This is a great insight into Scott's training: http://twit2fit.ning.com/video/scott-talks-about-fasils. He has good ideas behind what he is trying to accomplish but doesn't really hold up to scientific study.

I think he often times over-trains his athletes. There is only so many times you can run 25x400 before you get burnt out or hurt.

Simmons has his athletes doing 35x400 according to his twitter account. I really hope he doesn't have his college athletes run 25x400 or 35x400.

Fasil needs to take some time off and find a good coach before it's too late.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Bizuneh born in the African village of Indianapolis?

Fasil was born in Germany. His parents moved there after fleeing Ethiopia when it was politically unstable. Shortly after being born in Germany, Fasil and his family moved to Indianapolis.

You do realize that Simmons coached Cabada to a 2:12 marathon and Young to a 2:13. How many coaches have down that?

It might not be the coaching... it might be something else. Just saying.

It is not necessarily clear that Simmons overtrained him, but he had something go wrong for sure. It could be he didn't rest enough. I do know Simmons talks about Diamond Point tapers...where they don't really rest at all. I think that might not be so wise. He ran 1:06:48 through the half, but ran 1:23 and change for the second half. He might want to try something different before the race if he truly was as fit as Simmons and he both believed b/c his body seemed to not respond well to something

One thing to note as well is that he could have gottena cold or something right before, but who knows.
just looking at the facts Jack

Simmons also coached Young to a 2:28 at the championships last fall, and a really bad races all year long. He seems to only get a few years out of his athletes? This makes me think he doesn't really know what to do with those guys. Young and fasil would all run better someplace else. And how does he even coach those guys? I thought Simmons lived in NC????? Fasil is in AZ and young is in CO.

Fasil ran 27:50 once but seemed to run poorly otherwise. One good race doesn't make you a good coach.

Anyone know where Simmons got his education?

Fasil was healthy and ready to go according to his(Simmons & Fasil's) Twitter the morning of the race.

"Simmons factor" that's what went wrong!
