I'm tired of the gloating over the fact that they have been around for 3 years. Woopty do! Let's get back to the running and not post a video of ourselves everyday talking about our own private memories. Cross country is at its prime of the season right now with conference just finishing and regionals around the corner. Also, MEB JUST WON NYC! Hello, we care about the running not about your pride. |

How dare you besmirch flotrack. Hands down it's one of the top 5 sites on the internet. I like the hearing about the history of the stie. So there you go, I just cancelled out your dislike. |

The original poster is correct. The people at flotrack have huge egos. Did any of you get the email from Mark talking about their 3rd anniversary? I've posted the entire email below but want to talk about one excerpt:
They are practically acting like they caused German to run a 3:55 mile. They had no say in that. Youtube motivated everyone. Flotrack is just a good place to find running videos but now that everyone has a youtube channel, they aren't special. And the more I read that, I think they are acting like they caused them to run that fast. Ridiculous. Full email below.

Gotta disagree with the ego thing. Simple enthusiasm for his site, business, and the sport. He gave props to Meb and current events. He's not claiming he made someone run 3:55. He's just saying there's more access to the elites now. Which is true. And the snow run video was cool. Even if the 200 awkward interviews were not cool. |

I'm pretty sure the Trevor Dunbar video was on youtube and hit Dyestat long before Flotrack. It was being hyped up on Dyestat at least several days if not weeks before Flotrack. With that said, I'll take Flotrack over Dyestat any day. |

Pretty dense aren't you? Maybe you should re-read your excerpt to emphasize this: " I can't help but think that Flotrack had a hand in motivating someone to pick up a camera" The guys over there are not suggesting that they actually caused German to run a 3:55 solo, or that they caused Trevor to run that ridiculous 2-mile. Rather, they are suggesting that because Flotrack encouraged amateur filming and posting to a running-specific site for a running-specific community, that more and more athletes and fans are documenting their incredible feats. I think they're right. 3 years ago, we had to desperately scour the internet and youtube to find big moments in track. Now there are a host of sites dedicated to running video, with footage being consistently uploaded by fans of the sport. Flotrack has certainly contributed to this upswing in media access for the average runner. |

There are plenty of very very good local websites that were posting videos well before Flotrack and Dyestat. The only difference is those local websites don't have all the $$$$$ behind them. Face it those two websites, borrowed (stole) many ideas from those local websites so they shouldn't sound like they invented anything. They just used their backers dollars to promote it better. I've gotten tired of Flotrack's ego and Dyestat's focussing only on the best athletes - I spend my time now going through milesplit, tully runners, running maryland and other sites that are just as good as the big two, but cover more and more in depth all runners and all teams except just the stars. |

tired of Flotrack's ego but you prefer running maryland. HA! That site has the biggest ego of them all.

Jeez, this website is at least as self-congratulatory as Flotrack, and it seems on a far more frequent basis. If you don't like it, try some self-censorship and don't go to that site. |

Internetguy, Having read your post, I am unsure if you are any clearer than the excerpt to which you copied from the Flotrack email message. Email communication is typically less formal than say the great journalistic exploits of ....gee...I don't know, the New Yorker perhaps. I think most of or all of the Flotrack members got the gist of what Mark was saying and until I saw your post here, I did not see what you identify as claiming to cause someone to run a fast time, from that email. I see it as Flotrack motivating someone to pick up a camera and video someone running a fast time. you wrote: 'the more I read that, the more I...' Yes you convinced yourself, it is not a complex bit of sentence structure, in fact after a couple read-throughs I am betting it had nothing to do with the structure, but your own convicton. Now at the end of the day many people appreciate that the videos are available. How many times has NBC, ABC, ESPN, CBS, BBC, CBC etc etc been out to McMillan Elite in Flagstaff or interview Martin Fagan over a pc webcam? ZERO. Most of this journalism can be correctly referred to as 'guerilla journalism', some of it 'cub reporting' and none of it is available from the big media. Perhaps you should lighten up and enjoy the vast resources that are available to you now like the 'man on the street' style interviews with fantastic athletes who perform good, bad and indifferent at their respective levels. I know I do. Or race coverage in the rustic-style, from an ATV in the grass or a small track race that would never, ever get covered by anyone else, in the dark corner of a small city on the fringe of a track season. Personally I love the grainy and dark videos from the 'wrong end of the track'. I am there! I am there with the team, whether coiled up on my couch watching from the comfort of my own home or at a coffee shop on a break from work. Lastly your complaint is well received here, in that it gives me and obviously others an opportunity to express a different view than yours, which is something else Flotrack can do versus the 'big media'. Isn't that just fantastic? User driven media created by the people who have a true and honest interest in the subject matter they cover? |

I've met one of the flotrack guys (the little one) and he acted like a premadonna and frankly a bit of a jerk. |

My 2 cents: I love flotrack and the contribution they have made(to the sport). I have met both Mark and Ryan. They seemed to be good guys, noble young men, with good morals, as well as a very strong work ethic. I wish them well and continued success...... |

I enjoy reading Seth Godin's Blog. This entry seems to apply to this discussion. http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2009/10/trolls.html |

I suppose you are trying to discredit my statement with this? The funny thing is that little flotrack guy is, or at least when i met him, that's exactly what he was...a troll in every sense of that definition that your link gave. He was a complete dick. Maybe because he has a website you feel that I shouldnt say something negative about him, but because he acted like a premadonna I have no problem relating this story. |

I love Flotrack! Ryan always keeps the races exciting and the interview are good too! I know I'm not the only one who loves them. They rule! |

Flotrack does a very good job and I am very thankful for their promotion of the sport. Having said that, they are in trouble once they start to make real money. If someone sees it as profitable, they will take it over. It is not like anyone can't do this. When this happens they will not have to buy it from flotrack. They will simply take it over under another name. |

I also enjoy their site and could care less how they celebrate their anniversary...but I sure hope they get a tripod as one of their anniversary gifts! |

I love Flotrack, although they can be a bit self serving at times. But what worries me is there recent drop-off in content. Where was the WOW this week? There definitely seem to be fewer interviews with top collegians, athlete blogs, etc. I hope that they're not so busy trying traveling to meets that will pay their way, or trying to sell the company, that they forget what made them interesting. |

Yes, I do love the workout wednesdays with the college cc teams particularly... I still don't think they have done anything close to that first Dellinger meet that they covered... and I think they ALL have been great.. But that first Dellinger that they covered was really great. (the one with the bluegrass music in the background or would you call that folk) |
