NC State "stuns" Virginia by winning ACC title. Its so "stunning" that a coach with 30+ conference titles under his belt and an archive full of national champions and all americans lead his team to a conference title. I mean with all the XC success Coach Vag realized at Texas it just makes it all the more "stunning". |

Agreed. Vig is so over-rated. The old veteran got him and Virnia almost got picked off by both FSU and Duke! |

vigilante is not overrated at all... incredible resume, incredible coaching in a short period of time and i'm sure will continue his successes during the next 30 years. the issue though is LR rating him better than geiger within the conference and, even worse, positioning the nc state win as a "shocker". the nc state men had the better team through 5, were better prepared, were better conditioned, were better tested via pre-nats, and had a hall of fame caliber coach behind them on race day. i imagine geiger is very proud of vigilante's accomplishments but not planning to move over any time soon. plenty of room for more hardware in the nc state trophy case. should be a fun district race. |

Virginia had by far a better team and was the huge favorite. This is not a knock in any way on NC State or their coach, UVA was simply expected to win. The result was a shocker. Look at how NC State actually ran at pre-nats vs. UVA's performance on the same day. Regardless, hats off to NC State for performing when it counted. Regionals could be a different ballgame. |

it was the conference meet...bfd...ncsu will qualify for nats by either finishing 1st or 2nd in the weak ass region they're in and then blow at nationals...happens EVERY year... also, why didn't they run a full 8k? 15 people under 24 minutes at the conference meet? not an easy course, either...somebody get out the wheel... |

NC State ALWAYS guns for it at conference....and then underperforms at Nats. It was their home course....they knew how to run it and pick people off late in the race. And the NC State assistant who measured the course said the girls 6k was 7 feet short(no biggie) and the guys 8k course was 140 meters short(25 seconds). |

I seem to recall a thread a few months back about Vigilante versus Jason Dunn as a coach. This is not a knock against Vigilante (he's done well at Texas and Virginia) but maybe it's time to give Dunn his due (especially if his guys team can continue to perform). Granted, it's easier to compete when your kids coming in have run 8:46 for two miles versus 9:25, but that's no guarantee for success (look at the struggles for Fout of Florida State so far). Should be an interesting District race with NC State, W & M, and Virginia. |

Vig is super arrogant. Went around the ACC course on Friday and made his own marks on the course for his team to key off of - definitely not legal. The ACC had to go back through the course and remove them all. Come race day, Vig thought he was going to ride around the course on a bike since the course wasn't very spectator-friendly. Not allowed. Luckily, the ACC officials stopped him. Time for this guy to understand that Texas rules don't apply everywhere else. |

Louisville will be in that mix too- Big East a much tougher conference than ACC. Louisville and NC State both finished 9th at Pre-Nats. My Picks: 1) W&M 2) Virginia 3) Louisville 4) NC State 5) Duke |

Not a weak ass region anymore. NCSt, W&M, Louisville, UVA, Duke on the rise. Back when I was in college, the SE region (this one) and the South region (with UF, FSU, Bama, Tenn, etc) were all one single HUGE region. There were something like 76 DI teams and it only ever sent two teams to nationals for men. It was weak as hell in the early-mid 90s. Now, it's two regions and each one sends 3-4 each year. The times, they have changed. |

Duke has run much better at regionals than at conferences for the last few years and their fifth man beat State's and UVa's at ACC's. It wouldn't surprise me if they picked someone off. |

This is very funny. What goes around, comes around. Vig is one of those guys that would call the NCAA on you if you even looked at him sideways at a coaches meeting. Rumor is that he had the reporting hotline on his cell speed dial. Anyway, I guess he just thought he would make new rules for himself, becuase he's Vig. Kudos to the ACC for stomping on that notion. |

Im with you. I was at ACCs and Duke looked REALLY good. They will only get better at the 10k. Their lack of a front runner could hurt them but they have a very solid pack...that keeps improving rapidly. Dukes guys and girls have both outperformed everyones expectations. |

To be fair, it's about time Stormin' Norm got it right. He's had plenty of years to fix his mistakes and he is FINALLY seeing that what he was doing for years wasn't working. As a fan of the ACC, I'm glad to see that. However, it makes me question Norm's coaching ability if it's taken him this long to fix his training methods. At least he realized something wasn't right. |

My Picks: 1) W&M 2) Virginia 3) Louisville 4) NC State 5) Duke[/quote] The fact that both State and Louisville placed 9th at nationals is irrelevant. NC State seemingly bombed at prenationals with their usual number 3 man finishing as there number 6 or 7 man. Interestingly enough however, their typical number 3 man again finished as their 6 man. This makes me wonder how definitive Nc States victory would have been had this guy (Bobby Moldavan) (13:57 5k)finished where he typically does. ANyone know whats up w/ this guy?? I mean this guy finish where he potentially can....nc state top 7 team. |

it goes both ways...from the looks of it, UVAs Graham Tribble finished as their #5 when he was their #2 at their home meet a few weeks ago. That's a pretty hefty swing. |

The polls disagree ... Duke men drop to 30th and women move up only one spot to 15th. UVA's men got dropped pretty far for having just one bad race ... it will be interesting to see if they can bounce back and put together another dominating performance at regionals. |

since when has virginia put up a dominating performance at regionals? i believe they lost last year |

Newsflash, Mr Sleezy, lots of people have run WakeMed before so NC State didn't know some secrets about the course that others didn't to use late in the race. |

I just mean dominating like they have so far this year, minus ACCs. |
