the Roasas LET him win? That is not classy at all. That is an insult. That is an empty victory. Unless, somehow them letting him win let him advance to regionals or state. Otherwise, it's a slap in the face.
Dude they let their teammate win counties. He is a senior and has never won before so they felt since they have another year to give respect to their teammate in a gesture of saying "you can get the crown...we dont need it"

no doubt! what the hell was the writer thinking of drawing any comparison betweent those two events?
As for the act itself, if I was the kid who won, I would have been a bit pissed--i'd rather take 2nd (or 3rd in this case) to someone who raced, instead of "winning" like that. There's no shame in getting beat by two of the top runners in the country.
