i would think they WANT the race to fill up early - they get the money for entries faster. as an aside, the 1st std for boston in 1970 was 4 hours for everyone. |

I'm not a big fan of running along with 30,000 runners but since I'm sitting on a 3:01 qualifier that should put me up in corral 2 I was thinking of trying it again but those greedy bastards want $130.00 this year. I have the money but the principals of these rip-offs is unbelievable. Still pondering |

Any inside sources know where we stand on this topic? I'm holding out as long as possible to register. Have some knee issues that I'm waiting to get over before I commit. They should post the number of remaining entries on the website or something. |

Interesting question. I wonder how many people BQ at Boston...I am sure their are stats out there, but I am too lazy right now to look it up. I have said for years that its too easy to qualify, especially for the younger women. |

According to this link about 40% of the field at Boston requalified in the 2008 race: http://www.marathonguide.com/races/BostonMarathonQualifyingRaces.cfm It's kind of interesting that 2004, the ferociously hot year, that Boston didn't make the list of races with high percentages of qualifiers. |

As for an update, it is likely that it won't make it past November or even Thanksgiving... Yep - 3:01 will most likely put you in Corral 3. Unless it is 3:01:0x. Plus you are not running with 30,000 other runners. The field is usually 25-26,000 runners and broken up into two waves. And for $130, the BAA puts on a pretty good, competitive race. Even if you went sub-3 last year, you weren't in the top 1000. |
