1:26 isn\'t bad for 14, but it is impossible to say where you\'ll be in 3 years and change. There are a lot of things that can interrupt your progression.
As you mature, your body will go through continuous changes until you hit 18-20. I have friends who didn\'t grow at all in HS, but picked up 6 inches in their first year of college. Big growth spurts like that really can hinder performance.
You could also find that you\'re injury prone at higher mileages. Higher mileage isn\'t an absolute must, but if you want to be winning FLXC (or NXN, which will probably have wiped out FL by the time you\'re a senior) you\'re going to have to run some higher mileage. 70mpw+, more than likely; some people thrive on it, some people just break down.
Last is motivation, Younger guys tend to be very flighty in their interests. Do you really have the right mental makeup to log consistent miles, to know when to push and when to hold back? Do you have a solid coach who can help get you there, i.e. has done it before? Are you patient enough to learn how to train optimally? A lot of things can change in a few years.
My advice would be to keep your nose to the grindstone and have stepping-stone goals to get to your ultimate destination. Start out trying to be the top guy on your team, then aim for tops in your league, then state, region, and eventually in the nation. If you have what it takes to be a champ and your smart, patient, and diligent, then you\'ll get there. If not, well... you\'ll be like the 99.9999% of the rest of XC runners whose lips touch times and titles that their feet cannot.
