I am a high school xc coach, in the past we have had only one week in between the region and state meets. We peak our kids for the state meet, but try to have them fresh and ready to go for Region so they can make it to the state meet. This year we have two weeks in between. I am trying to figure out some workouts that will help our kids stay sharp in the week off of racing. It's typical HS XC where you have to race some of your kids into shape and they run 1-2 meets a week with duals and invitationals. We are fairly low mileage probably tailing off to around 30 mpw right now and our intervals tend to be some combination of 1000s and 800s and we do some tempos and fartleks.
Any ideas on some good workouts to keep the kids sharp but not hit them too hard during the last 2 weeks of the season?
