I just stumbled across this thread in search of a 13.1 sticker. Since when is a Half Marathon not something to be proud of. I just finished my first and I am slow and guess what I am still damn proud of doing the Atlanta Half Maratho n on Thanksgiving morning instead of sitting on my ass and will proudly display my sticker despite you running snobs |

Nope, the rest of us routinely run HM distance or more in training at a faster pace than you race the mile. keep dreaming |

13 miles is a mid week training run. Don't worry about what others think. If you are happy with your run that's all that counts. Just remember to not act like your run was something special to the rest of the world. The fact that somebody doesn't fawn over your run doesn't make them an "elitist snob". Go over to runnersworld to get sunshine blown up your ass. Now go get your shine box. |

I think I might get one that says "1". |

I've got a 3.1 that got an interesting reaction from a 15 hr Ironman guy with his 140.6. He didn't appreciate my sarcasm as I gave him my PR's for assorted distances and the fact that I've completed 25 marathons. |

I am the OP, and I greatly appreciate your insights on my 2-plus year old half-troll/half-wtf observation as I saw that SUV one day. I still think it's embarrassing for someone to parade around town is such an exhibitionist fashion, egocentrically displaying their achievements like a Congressional Medal of Honor winner. As my old high school coach used to say when we vainly talked about something we did, "Hey Johnson, what do you want: a medal, or a chest to pin it on?" |

Sometimes I don't get some of you Letsrun posters. MOST here would say it's not the fact that you can complete a race but that you do it QUICKLY. This is why ultra marathoners are demonized here (though, you CAN actually try to run an ultra QUICKLY if you want!). So, who says the guy is proud that he COMPLETED one. Maybe he ran it in 1:04 and is proud of that. Some people just have a race they gravitate towards. Seems fine to me to put that sticker on their car.[/quote] You're right and what some of these juvenile idiots don't get is that the reason most race directors put on road races is because of all the Gallowalkers and joggers who are proud to complete a 5K/13.1/whatever. I ran road races when there were 50 guys tops (NO girls), and everyone was in it to be competitive. I don't think we'd have our local 5Ks or big city marathons if it stayed that way. Appreciate the people who make it possible for you to race whenever you want. And you know what? Most of them think you're very cool for being as fast as you are. I'm NOT fast by letsrun standards, but I can finish near the front of my local races and people think I'm some kind of god. It's crazy. |

I have a "I work out at the gym semi-regularly for about 30 minutes a day, mostly during the summer, never during holidays" sticker, so what? |

Its just a sticker, who cares? It could say "I Love Cats" or anything in the world. It's their business. Why would anybody worry about that. My sister didn't start running until her 30's. Yes, she is a soccer mom, and has a 26.2 sticker and one that say's 'RunnerGirl". She has run a 4:18 marathon and I'm glad that she has some enthusiasm for a healthy, new hobby. |

completely agree. i think its something that runners can bond over. Although all you elites on this thread obviously are much better people then them and couldnt possibly be bothered to associate with them. |

I have a heart condition that caused doctors to think I would never complete a 5k much less a half. I think anyone who gets off the couch and accomplishes for themselves should have reason to boast. runners should not come off as snobs... |

I have a training partner who dropped out of Boston a couple years ago, due to an achillies injury. I so wanted to get a 26.2 sticker, put it on his car and then take a RED Sharpie to it, cross out the 26.2 and write in 16.1, the point he dropped out at. That would have been cool... |

I saw my first 13.1 sticker just the other day. I thought of this thread and took a picture of it with my cell phone. (we were stopped at an stoplight) I am now going to look for an entire series of stickers to put across my back window for the distances that I have raced. 1 5K 10K 13.1 26.2 Or, maybe just individual stickers noting the random distances of my training runs. 6 7 8 10 12 14 16 18 20 |

What?! You've never raced an 3k, 2, 8k, 20k or some random distance due to a last minute course reroute due to flooding or lack of permit? You inexperienced worthless hobby jogger. Please stop posting here until you grow up and become a real runner. |

Your problem like most if not all the negative posters here is to assume that having a 13.1 sticker (or any other events or distances)on your own vehicle is for bragging purposes. Really?, all of you haters, really cannot think of any other reasons why someone would put a sicker other than for bragging rights.....Well, that's says a lot about yourselves. Vanity, the original poster picked the right name for himself and even his coach knew it too apparently but like you it didn't help to change your ways and see more than what meet the eyes. Just think about That!! As for me, whenever I see a sticker about running it always brings a smile to my face thinking ...Hey look another fellow runner...pretty cool. |

Yeah I didn't bother to go through the pages and pages of this thread but here's what I think it comes down to on letsrun... Everyone who's slower than you SUCKS. Everyone who's faster than you uses PED. My opinion: If someone is proud that they completed a race and wants to advertise it through a bumper sticker. So be it. It doesn't DIRECTLY hurt me or you. Quite frankly, it doesn't DIRECTLY hurt anyone. If it genuinely bothers you, then that's a consequence of your own unstable ego...sort it out. But in the meantime, stop complaining about someone being proud of their own personal sense of accomplishment. It's petty and really just makes you look insecure. Talking sh!t and putting down others to elevate your own ego is easy. That's why middle school girls do it. Being the best runner in the world isn't easy. That's why you aren't him/her. Until you hold a world record in an event, I strongly recommend that you refrain from the sh!t talking since you are just as liable to be on the receiving end. There's someone out there better than you. |
