There will be some of you that know me, and hopefully you give advice as opposed to slander. I will give a background: High school PR's 800-2:01 (gr 12) 1000-2:41 (gr 11) 1500-4:06 (gr 12) 3000-9:03 (gr 12) These were all run off of 35-40 miles a week, with nothing extravagent for workouts. We didn't focus on speed or endurance specifically, more just overall fitness. My university training was very inconsistent due to problems outside of school, and I was injured on and off for 3 years with multiple coaches. It was then that I took time off, quit running because I didn't know if it was what I wanted to spend my time doing. I spent the next 5 months partying and doing everything BUT run. At the point when I took time off, I was 152 lbs, very light for my muscle structure (I took a kin class and had my body fat tested at 8%) I am 5'8, 173 lbs now. I want to get back down to 144 lbs which is where I have found I run my best. After my 5 months off I realized that my life is missing something, and I quickly found out that was running. I have ran workouts in the last year that showed considerable fitness, and both of my former training partners ran sub 15 this summer. Kudos to them. Now it is my turn. I am going to keep everyone informed of my progress over the next few months/years, and we shall see if I can reach my goal. I am 21 years old, work 30 hours a week as a waiter and have plenty of time to run. I will update tomorrow with my run results, as I expect this to be a daily posting by me. Wish me luck! |

Today was pretty good, I ran for 43 mins, approximately 6 miles. It was a little chilly, had to break out the long sleeve shirt already ha (last week it got up to +32 Celsius). I felt heavy obviously, but I was surprised that 43 minutes would be doable on my first run. It was also a fasted run, to help me lose my belly ha. |

don't get into it too fast... you don't want to risk injury, especially with added weight |

Tonight was 30 minutes, nice and easy and about 4 miles. It was pouring out and there wasn't another person out, which made it easy to remember why I like the solitude of running. |

Anyone remember the guy who wanted to break Bekele's 5k WR? I think he had a website...runwithvon.com? |

I managed to get myself out of bed this morning, I work a split today. Did 30 minutes with my room mate who runs for the local university. I felt mediocre, didn't sleep well last night, but got my 4 miles in for the day. |

JCHOW Are you running the local XC race this weekend? I'd say which one specifically but I'm not sure how concerned you are with keeping your identity somewhat secret... |
| an observation... |

Funny your goal is to break 15:00, and yet you haven't listed your PR for the distance. |

Ha well I have nothing against keeping my identity a secret, anyone that wants to know something can ask. I am mostly doing this because I don't have a coach right now, and I can get input from people on here about training. And no, I am not running U of S open because I have only been running for a few days now, I doubt I will run any cross races until November, and even then they are only going to be training runs. I don't want to push my body over the limit in the first few months, but depending on how fast I progress I might run a full indoor season as opposed to only a few races. My 5k PR is 16:10 on the roads, and I haven't ran an outdoor season since high school. The 16:10 was on a course that was 5000m within 2-3m leeway. |

JCHOW, I don't want to thread jack so I am gonna ask you. I have the same goal and it looks like others do too. Would you mind if we turn this into the goal of sub 15 for all thread? I would like to follow you in this and think it would be great to post my workouts too so we can compare and get feedback from others. I have had a bit of a head start on you though. I started back in May after my 4 years off. Tonight was my longest run since walking away. I ran 12 miles at 7:27 pace. PRs: 800m 2:03 Mile 4:24 3000 9:03 Sucks compared, I know. 5000 15:12 10000 31:31 |

Sure, I am all for everyone joining in on my journey. Post your workouts and we can help coach each other. Today was short, 20 minutes. I go to work for the next couple days, so it might be awhile before I post again. |

Look forward to hearing what you have been doing. Yesterday I got in 6 miles at 6:35 pace Today I did a 9 mile fartlek. There is a local 5k in two weeks that I am going to hop in to get a gauge on my fitness level. Will keep you all posted. |

My run tonight was unreal, I felt awesome. Ran for about 40 minutes, out 22:30 and back in 17:19. I went out in about 7:30 pace and came back fairly strong but in control. I figure about 3 miles either way because I wasn't running 8 minute miles going out, 7:30 is pretty comfortable right now for an easy run. Either way, 17:19 for 3 miles as just a pickup during a run is pretty encouraging. |

That is awesome!! You can't tell a lot from one workout, but I would say you are further along than you think with your training. |
