And I don't want to hear how the course was short. It wasn't.

How can you say for sure it wasn't short?
keep telling yourself it wasn't short.
I posted my above quote without even looking at the results, after looking at them, come on man. You really are stoned if you think that's a legit 5k unless it was point to point downhill. Royal does not have 4 runners sub 15.
Where does it say 5K? Maybe it was more like 2.9 miles.
Check that - based on the /mile pace, probably 3.0 miles.
Isn't it basically a road race? They don't do real xc in california
It is 3.0 and it was Garmin'd by kids at 3.0. Also coach Vargas (meet director) wheels it every year after the course is laid out to ensure it is accurate. So I ask again, has it ever been done?
Probably. They had 29 under 15:00 in 2007, sounds like it is pretty common.

3 miles is 188 yards short of a 5k.
I was there for the sweeps race. The race atmosphere is unbelievable. That was the most noise I have ever heard at a high school race. The course is grass, road and dirt with lots of turns, but flat. I didn't measure it so can't speak about the distance.
no one was asking if it was short of a 5k. the OP knows it was 3.0 miles. the OP is asking if 34 h.s. runners have ever run under 15:00 for 3.0 miles in a single race before.

atascadero invite
ache for days
That's not an unusual number of guys under 15:00 at the Illinois state meet, which runs about the same as Woodbridge according to the guys whose business it is to compare courses. Over the past 4 years, the number of guys under 15:00 have been- 36, 41, 36, 24, with this year looking to be another very good year.
Then why didn't he say 3.0 in his post? 5k is much more common so of course we would question it. I would not question 34 guys under 15 for 3 miles. Big difference.

I agree. When you say HS I think 5k. Then when you put up results like that who wouldn't question it. As someone said, 3 makes sense. Illinois does it a lot. I'm sure there are some big HS invites where there are 34 guys sub 15:40 (about what a 15 3 mile would be).

See, now this was a good response. I did not know that Illinois had that many in one race. Thanks for posting. However, Woodbridge is an early season invite, not a late season championship race.
Still, I can see you guys are not impressed cuz it wasn't 5K.
I thought my link to the results showed that is was 3.0 and not 5k. It did not, so sorry about the confusion.
It is impressive - where I'm from (CT) a 15:40 5k guy will probably be top 6 in the state.
It's just how you phrased the question that changes things - has this ever happened before?? Well, yeah, if you ask it like that we can come up with many historical examples.
It's still impressive, just less so when you think about it all-time.

Neither does NCAA, neither does USATF, neither does World Cross. Who does do real xc?
Nice troll effort to get the Crystal Springs and Mount SAC people talking about how tough it is in Cali. 7/10
