Im wondering if theres any coaches out there have tried this. The time between the end of cross to the championship season of track is so long in our state. Ive seen our guys get stale towards the end of the year and then guys who get injured or take some time off during the training in the winter early spring end up having a better peak.
What im thinking is to just do 6 weeks of speed training after cross country and a little break. The milage during this time will be only 30-38 miles a week compared to the 45-60 the guys do. Then during Christmas break take another break and then in january start training for track.
Heres what it would look like.
CC State meet Nov 7
take a week and half break no running
Introduce easy running for a week and half
Then put some hill sprints and lite threshold workouts for 2 weeks
Then cont hill sprints and add VO2 work for 2 weeks
Then lactate tolerance work
Christmas break
Then start track training as usual..we will have 20 weeks until state track meet
