. . . beats Burka and Jamaal. Not a bad day. Seems like this would have been a perfect race for Willard to win. (2:28 @ 800)

didn't you just have jaw surgery?
She's an awesome runner. But I wonder how much the 'gritty' comments are simply due to her lower lip position when running.

Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda??
Willard didn't run the race so there is NO WAY to know how she would have finished.
Wurth ran great. Good on her!

Or it could be the fact that she often sets a hard fast pace for the early and middle portions of the race, and is often a nonfactor when the kickers catch up to her?
It's not always how she runs, but it's happened enough to associate it with her racing.
Did you happen to see Ms. Wurth-Thomas close today. She was closing faster than anyone in the last 40 meters. She came out of nowhere to grab third. Great finish today and a great finish to her track season. Congratulations to her for a inspiring season.
She's earned a bit of cash and she'll be nowhere next year.
Just like Jen Rhines. She looked kinda good last year, and now she's lived off a few invites.
Dope.

Okay, if you say you are a dope, you're a DOPE.
No, I didn't see the race today, but read that her kick was impressive. I wasn't commenting on today's race, but simply saying that's been a pattern for her this season, and is why the Brojos used the phrase 'gritty', which is what I assumed TTC was referring to.
From the Letsrun recap of the WAF:
I looked up the definition of douche bag and you're (trollism) picture came up.It said "trollism " spends way to much time trolling on letsrun.com forums making a douche bag out of himself. "She kinda looked good"......you are a douche bag. I'll tell you whose NOWHERE... I'm sure you can't live off of any invites.... seriously, you're not a runner? You're just somebodies relative or (I doubt if you have any) friend? Snot running down his nose.....greasy fingers typing crappy prose...hey Trollism...I didn"t know you inspired Ian Anderson. .....Good luck....ah.......Dope
Hey, Aqualung!

You are as strange as you are officious and (most of the time) ignorant. Takes all kinds, I guess.
You are so ignorant. You just make stuff up and try to pass it off as inside information or brilliant wisdom.
after the remarkable improvement this year by CWT, if you are Willard or Donohue, how can you not think about what dropping a few lbs can do? i know all about body type but both could drop (5)----maybe it doesn't work for them, but you cannot ignore the improvement from CWT this season---its a sensitive issue but one to ponder, especially in a situation where (5) is not going to put either in unhealthy range
The best runners seem to thin out at some point in their mid 20's. Mary Slaney and Bob Kennedy looked much different and leaner than in their early years. Steve Scott also.

Right. Not in the race. (See definition of "seems.") She opted for the 800 today, which she won. It remains to be seen whether 800 or 1500 is her best race in a championship -- or if she's equally good at both.
But my main point was, as you say, Wurth-Thomas ran a great race.
This thread is about what Wurth-Thomas accomplished.
I just don't see the point of projecting how someone would do in a race when they didn't run it. It is disrespectful to the women who competed to assume that someone else would have won the race when that person didn't toe the line.
Furthermore, Willard was the third American finisher in both championship races she has contested at 1500 meters (USA's and World's), so to say that it "seems" Willard would have won this race is an assumption that has no merit.
She is undefeated at 800 meters.
I think she has proven that given the current level of competition in both events, the 800 is her best shot at medalling in a major championship.
However, if Semenya is allowed to compete against the women in the future, there is no way Willard, or any female, wins gold.

Not to prolong a discussion of a well-played-out topic, but given that Willard has emerged as perhaps the best 800/1500 runner in the world this year, I wouldn't think she'd be looking too hard for things to change about herself. If you are a runner who thinks that dieting is a good way to get faster, hopefully Willard's example help you to worry less about being skinny, and to pay attention to eating plenty of good food so that you can train hard.
Anna is a novice at 800m/1500m. When she gets a year or two more of international experience, she'll be a 1:54/3:55 runner.
