His 5k pr is 20 flat. And thats from last week. That's 6:26 pace. I figure he should be able to maintain 7:30 pace for 10 miles.
Anyone else try something like this?

As someone in about the same shape (~1930), a 10 miler at 7:30 is very doable.
why not just let him dictate the pace?

bingo - end thread.
I will let him dictate the pace. But if he starts going 8 min per mile, I'm gonna tell him he needs to go faster or I'm gonna drop him.
you're awesome
you should probably warn him of this ahead of time.
Was the point of this just to tell us your pr? Are you just running with him to feel good about yourself? You sound like a tool

Maybe the reason you suck too is cause you're doing your long runs too fast.
Your PR isn't even that fast. You shouldn't be doing your 10 mile runs much faster than 7:30s assuming you are in HS still and are only training for 5k's.

No, never before in the history of mankind!
So does this guy want to do a 10 mile MP run?
What is the purpose of this run?
Last week I ran 19:42 in a 5 k. Two weeks before I ran 1:07:56 in the Crim 10 mile. So, I would say that if the guy has decent endurance and has done a few long runs, 7:30 pace should be easily doable.
So let me get this straight. This guy runs his 10 mile 3 minutes and 40 seconds slower than you can run 5k?
I'm running with him to make him better. He doesn't run on the weekends unless he's running with somebody.

I do all my runs at about 7:30 pace. I was just wondering if you guys thought he'd be able to run 7:30s.

well aren't you a humanitarian!
newsflash: 16:20 isn't so fast that you can't run 8min pace.

7:30 will be within 6-12 sec of MP for him depending on his endurance. It is doable but will be a fairly demanding effort for him. It will not be easy.
Again, what is the purpose of the run? Everyone must ask them self this before every run. If he wants/needs to do a MP workout then it fits.

Why does there have to be a purpose? I just get out and run about 10 miles a day. He doesn't NEED to do a run at all. He SHOULD run so that he gets better.

Some people think 7 minute pace is where miles start to turn into junk miles. I think 8 minute pace is that line.
Well then, you're an idiot. Glad we've settled that!
