Many marathon training programs seem to focus on three key workouts:
- Long Slow Distance
- Tempo/Threshold run
- Interval run
with the rest of the mileage coming from "Easy" or "Recovery" days.
I'm wondering how Easy days contribute to race performance, and specifically whether their cardiovascular benefit might not more effectively (and more easily on the running muscles) be accomplished through quality cross-training.
