4:42 mile
280 pounds bench
4:18
290
4:37
220
Sophomore year of high school. I definitely could've improved both if I had tried.
4:17
291
3:50 1500m
215 bench
yeah well, if "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts then every day would be christmas.
270 bench
425 squat
4:40 mile
Did the above in high school
Improved in college to 4:18 mile, but slacked off on the weights some in order to get a little less bulky. Ran low 26s for 8k during XC. Injuries hampered progress after these improvements were made.
Interesting thing is that I never got hurt until I started slacking off on the weights. But I don't think I would have ever improved as much as I did if I continued lifting heavy weights.
this seems best so far but i call his bluff...who presses 291 pounds? where did the extra pound come from? bs.....
Joe Falcon: 3:49 and 300 lbs
Ratio?
Wouldn't a really good ratio be something like... 600 seconds to run a mile:1 pound bench pressed?
600:1?
Are these people benching on a machine or are they using free weights?

He said "better" not "higher". A ratio would only be inappropriate if both quantities need to be high or both need to be low. Since lower is better for the mile time and higher is better for the bench press the ratio gets smaller ie "better" as either one improves.

He did not really bench 300, but he was a mighty mouse. Plus he would have been the first American under 13:00.
390 lb bench, 715 lb squat. 3:51 mile.
(None of you above me have ever done what you claimed to have done like I have.)
2:46 mile 795 lb bench
never ran a timed mile - this was en route to a 15:39 10k.
would've topped 1000 lbs on the bench but my left arm was broken at the time so I only had the right one to use.
4:00 1500
305 press
a few years apart though. I think 240 when at 4:00

John Schiefer called BS on this urban legend.
Guys don't believe your claims here. First we are mostly talking high school people here? Are we talking Olympic weights? First rule that one learns if they have lifted all their life is NEVER believe what guys say they can bench. NEVER. I was a training officer, for example, of a 180 man police dept. We had a bench press contest. Only 2 men, body weight of over 220 pounds, hit over 225 lbs. Ninety percent could not hit over 190. No where close to 190. Maybe 1 or 2 here are for real, but I would never believe these claims unless I put you on the bench threw the 45 pound plates on and saw you do it. Sorry got to claim BBUUULLLLLSSHHHHIIIIKKK!
come on man, don't ruin this thread with your negativity. you're never going to believe us unless you see it yourself, and you'll likely never see it yourself from us, so why do you bother even posting that you don't believe it? Just let us have this thread so that those of us that are telling the truth can know our place in the world and how much further it's possible to push ourselves.
if you want to know how we got that strong or if it was on free weights or something like that, then that's fine - it's at least somewhat contributive to the topic, but don't post something negative on here that isn't going anywhere.
