This is my final year of cross country in HS (senior) and I put in a huge base this summer. In the past, I have done the same but we have a good team... the coach pretty much never talked to me and would just go to the boys team (who weren't that great...) or the top 1-2 girls (though I have no problem with them at all, I am good friends with them all even though they have graduated). This year I ran around 80 mpw over the summer and I have become a lot better (dropped a minute off my time from last year).
Well now, the coach suddenly realized this and things have changed... I have a shot at winning a race this weekend, and the winners typically get interviewed. The coach used to pretty much never talk to me, but has been coming up to me lately and asking "How I have been feeling on workouts", and today tried to hint me mentioning him in the interview if I did win.
The thing is that a lot of the stuff I have done has been "self coaching" because I've read up a lot on Daniels, Lydiard, etc. A lot of the time I didn't follow some of the workouts (because some of them were not very good... as in multiple hard days with tons of intervals). I just think it's kind of ridiculous that NOW the coach is paying attention, only because he can get some glory. It's been kind of bothering me, and I'm wondering if I should just tell him... but I don't know how he will take to that. What should I do in this situation? Just not mention him at all? Continue doing my own thing?
