It was never really said if Rupp went pro or not. I am assuming he did and is with nike. The question still stands, Is he pro?

It was said.
Really
He has been pro for years.
rupp went pro in 2001
Really? Did he sign a contract with his parents to support him?
I take it that he turned pro about a week after the NCAAs. He signed on with Michael Johnson's management team.
There was a low-key mention of this in the Track and Field blog on oregonlive.com earlier this summer, offering no details other than that Galen was "drawing a paycheck" from Nike.
when you get to live in the altitude house, run on the underwater treadmill, run on the alter-g treadmill, have a private coach, train with elite athletes who are also pro during the summer - in another state, have the services of a personal team doctor, and nutritionist, you are a pro.

I choose to call that good, lucky and having rich parents.

Yes, he signed with Nike - 7 years, $17 million. The most lucrative contract in long distance running history.
are we still arguing this?
his collegiate career is over, lets move on, and enjoy watching him compete ona world level. he is an amazing runner and will do some great things in the next few years.
so sick of the "rupp is pro" whiney crap. seriously. get over it

You got it right dude, Rupp was incredibly lucky to be born where he was, by parents that gave him great running genes, and to have been discovered, by a great mentor.
His only act of bad luck was to be born into an era was a couple of dumb brothers would allow the douche underclass of the web to write lies and slander and smear the dude.
Rupp and his family are quality people.
One can only imagine the low class families the haters come from. Yuck.
incredible talent ... for someone who is both "hypothyroid" and "asthmatic" - very interesting indeed.
guys like you are on par with the nitwits who think that if you don't like obama then you are a racist.
It was quietly announced a couple months ago that Rupp had signed a Nike contract. Shortly after that, word got out that Rupp had proposed to his long time girlfriend, Keara Sammons, and that she had accepted. The wedding date is unknown, but they are both quality young people, from good and supporting families. Of course, they won't need a lot of support now that Galen has a lucrative contract. According to Galen, one of his first tasks is to pay back his folks for approximately $100K that they went into debt while investing in his education and collegiate track career. All the best to the Rupp's (and Rupp's to be) and here's to a long and record-setting running career as a pro.
bump, i still want to know the answer to this question
No he just runs for fun and to show the pros that rich spoiled brat doesn't need money as incentive to beat them.

Wow, Salazar must have massive expectations for him.
Pretty sure he runs professionally. I've never heard any stories about him working another job.
Galen has never signed a contract with anyone. He stated, shortly after graduation, that he wanted to maintain his amateur status so he could train and race "in the spirit of Prefontaine".
Last reported, he and his fiance were living in a small trailer surviving on food stamps and other government subsidized programs.
He will only sign a contract after he wins the Olympic gold medal that Pre was never able to win.
Go Ducks
Yes.
