I would be interested to see if there is a correlation between your 5k pace (for example 6 minutes per mile) divided by 2 (3:00) equals a 3 hour and 00 minute marathon time. Discuss.

I'd be interested too. Anything else you'd like to discuss?
Figures you're from Iowa.
It has no correlation. Retard.
I think this is almost incredible.
12:26=2:00:00
15:32=2:30:00
18:39=3:00:00
And of course I'm not saying there's any direct correlation, but I think it's a cool rule of thumb for equating these times.
thanks for doing Iowan's work for him. this thread just gained a whole lot more credibility.
Sounds about right for a more marathon-oriented runner.
I just wanted to see if you have found that this is somewhat accurate for you. It seems to work for me and was wondering if your times tend to workout as well.
However and whoever came up with that formula has to be given credit. It is actually a pretty good ballpark figure. The times I've calculated are relatively appropriate for what they should be.
that is a new twist, but it works for me.
Works pretty close for me as well. 17:35 5k and 2:47 marathon.
The McMillan calculator comes up with numbers that are pretty close:
For example:
pace for 5k---marathon time
5 minute pace=2:31.26
6 minute pace=3:01.39
7 minute pace=3:32.02
As another poster pointed out, I think if a person is more of an endurance type it's going to be closer. I knew people with a lot of speed who could go sub 5 in a 5k easily on 40 mpw but would not be able to break 2:30 in a marathon.

Iowa is where work gets done and championships are won
Since I am more inclined to run a half marathon or a marathon than a fast 5k it has worked for me. If I am not in top form I may even run 10K pace divided by 2= my marathon time.

And the meth is cooked by retarded farm boys.
Right on the button for me.
Who is the retard now Charlie?
it works, at least if jack daniels' calculator is correct.

This is why LRC is becoming a worthless forum. Everyone is quick to post a stupid reply complete with an insult. It's ok to think before you post. Looks like Iowan was on to something interesting that I don't remember being discussed before.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
