Why should there necessarily be anything wrong with it?
Obama may not be everything we want him to be, but the "other side" sure does like to raise a lot of false alarms about him.
He's like circumventing my right as a parent to keep my child from hearing anything from anyone i don't agree with politically. And barak HUSSIAN obama is going to try to shove his socialist agenda down my child's throat. He wants to turn children into his personal slaves and have them turn their own parents in for reeducation seminars. Its true, i heard it from Michael Savage, and he couldn't say it if it weren't true. IM AN AMERICAN, AND MY CHILDREN ARE AMERICAN, like, this is so wrong, i seriously fear for my country and my safety under this regime. GOD BLESS THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLDDDDD.
I consider myself liberal, and this frightens the ever-living sh*t out of me. Pledging to an ideal is not the same as pledging to a person. This reeks of Obama Youth. The ends do not always justify the means.
The problem is that the conservative movement has turned into a neo-LaRouche movement. They will squak and scream at anything, real or merely percieved, true or fabricated, in order to get attention from potential followers. Thus, it is not surprising that the greatest demographic gains for Republicans have been with people who never got a college degree.

but what about the speech frightens you?
This sort of crap is why moderates can't vote for the Republicans.
There's nothing wrong with the president giving a speech to children emphasizing personal responsibility, the value of education, and staying in school. Anyone who would hold their child out of school to keep them from hearing that message is some sort of strange ideologue who probably can't even function without Rush Limbaugh to tell them what to think.
They're more than a neo-LaRouche movement....they ARE a LaRouche movement. The clowns that were carrying posters comparing Obama to Hitler at those town hall meetings had, on more than one occasion, LaRouch'es website address written at the bottom
He told them to do their homework and go to class. If THAT's "Obama Youth," it sounds pretty good to me. If he were telling them to hate jews, I might see your point.
the problem seems to be that he is black

This school speech has nothing to do with Demi and Ashton's pledge to serve Obama. I would also complain if they showed that video at public schools.
I was skeptical about the speech, but after reading it, I don't see anything wrong with it. I am not liberal, btw.
you idiots it wasn't necessarily the speech it was the ridiculous questions that the DOE was suggesting stupids answer. take a look at the questions...
the questions where based on the president instead of on the student and how they can succeed...it was what can the students do for the president...
How long will you you cry wolf and use the race card?
Clearly you needed a President to tell you to stay in school. Just a hint, when calling others idiots, it helps if your post is grammatically correct. Your post made no sense.

...still don't see the problem. if you do, please be specific and give examples. :)

as long as it is the correct card to play.
5 Presidents will have addressed schools through television - going back to Reagan. I've never heard of it being a problem before.
How would you like to explain it?
I just read the questions from the DOE and still fail to see what the problem is.
Its funny, but to me, the thing that conservatives should be jumping on is that his overall message - overcoming adversity, bouncing back from failure with no excuses, and achieving success through hard work - seems contradictory with much of his public policy.

When George HW Bush made a similar speech to students Dick Gephardt got pretty pissed about it. So just because you've never heard of it being a problem before doesn't mean it's never been a problem before.
I'm conservative and an American
And it's times like this when I am ashamed to be both!
A different level of idiocy has been reached in this country!
