I vote Giuseppe Rossi of Clifton, New Jersey. Easily the most talented player the US has ever produced.

Yes. Not even a question.

He may be the most talented, but you as a member of some running community should know that talent means little unless you are going to work for it.
Also he has chosen to play for Italy, the country of his (or one of them) parents births, rather than play for the US. So by that fact I would not consider him a US soccer player.
My vote would have to go to Tim Howard. His is one of the best, especially when he is one his game, which is pretty often.
Excluding keepers, it's definitely Gooch.
Mia Hamm.
Keep an eye on Casey Townsend from Maryland... the kid is going to be awesome.
Gooch is only good in the air.. Apart from that he is a horrible defender with a lack of control with the ball.
Tim Howard is the best player we have right now.
Although Landon Donovon really impressed me at the confederations cup.. I wish he was like that all the time. Ohh yeah, Clint Dempsey is doing pretty well in the EPL too. Those are our three best players! I see Altidore doing well in the coming years as well.
In the past I will have to say it is a tie between Reyna and Friedel. Reyna is the only player to ever make the World's starting 11 at the World Cup. Friedel was voted Keeper of the year in the EPL!!
Best us soccer player = best south african hockey player

Wrong. Tim Howard is one of the best keepers in the world. We are very lucky to have him back there. Especially given how England invented this game but haven't had a keeper who was even decent since Peter Shilton in the 80s.
David James wasn't decent?
Best US Player: Howard.
Most Valuable US Player: Landon Donovan.
Value I define as value over a replacement player. i.e. How much worse would the team be without this person?
Best I define as roughly the player's world ranking at the position.
In Goalie, we have a number of great americans. In terms of midfielders who can set up goals, score, lead, and carry the ball in the midfield, Donovan is just about it, and is immensely superior to what we have off the bench there.
Goalies aside, I love Michael Bradley and I think he is going to be a tremendous player in the near future. His work rate and ball hawking in the midfield was tremendous in the confederations cup. Sorely missed in the final.

Well I guess if you're a fan of the other team, then yes!
Landon Donovan is the heart and soul of US soccer. Without him the team falls apart. He is it's best player.
i'm not a soccer fan, but the answer here is jozy altidore. he's the type of athlete that never played soccer in this country before. his career is going to play a major role in deciding the future of soccer in this country. he's a small forward or a running back or a third baseman. if US soccer improves in the mainstream in the next several years, it will be because of him

Good call here. This guy doesn't even turn 20 until this November! He could very well become the biggest soccer star the US has ever seen.
Charlie Davies, I wouldn't say he's the best, but most improved this year. Spectacular find. Altidore and Davies could lead our attack until 2020.
