Heres my question, all summer long I have been building up a base for cross country doing 100 + miles a week for about 12 weeks and for the last 4 weeks of those 12 doing 120-130 miles per week. All this mileage had been based on "feel" basically running how fast/ or as slow as I want to depending on my legs that day. Now that the cross country season has begun I have realized that even though I would like to keep the mileage up above 100 I cannot handle it with the current quality we are doing (3 workouts a week with "recovery runs" under 6:30). My question is do you think dropping my mileage down to about 70 in order to be fresh for races/workouts for the next 2-3 months or so (intill xc ends) is a good idea or is it a recipe for peaking too early?
