Yeah, I mean...Iggy Pop is hardly "under-rated." He's well-known and praise is lavished on the guy all the time. How is that "under-rated?"
Wrong dickbag. Ryan Adams is totally underrated. Sure, most his fans are scene kids, but the guy is a sick talent and lives up to rock and roll legendary status, at least until he married that teeniebopper. Still, the guys range is ridiculous.
I might get bashed for this, but I'm going to say that John Mayer is an underrated rocker. Yes, he's been quite popular, but I think that most people don't realize that the guy can freakin' rock. Most people know him as the stereotypical "douche bag with a guitar," the likes of which you will see strumming an old acoustic in every quad of every college campus. But when the guy shifts his effort from selling records to middle school girls to making good music, he's actually quite good.
Maybe not the most underrated guy out there, but certainly a talented guy who is written off by most.
Actually how can you bash a guy that was on Chappelles Show and actually did a good job?

He's written off by a lot of guys, but he's overrated by lots of females. Ever see him perform? Christ, enough with the goofy mannerisms and just play the guitar. Mayer will always be written off by a large portion of people because he is a tool, even if he is fairly talented SRV.
And I agree with the op-Ryan Adams is very underrated and one of this generation's few true rocknrollers.

he does not rock...he grooves at best.
I nominate Mick Jones from the Clash. Joe Strummer gets all the clash credit (and he deserves a ton) but Mick always gets overlooked.
Simple Minds. Theme for Great Cities.
Roy Buchanan
The Church, from Australia
Flea and the Chili Peppers. They sounded good in the awful 80s movie Thrashin' and haven't slowed down in the 25 years since.
You mean Bryan Adams surely?
