I read this when it came out, but just reread it now. Points out a lot of interesting things. When he ran 13:30 (school record) he was doing 75 mpw.
Like CU, before this time, Wisco did all singles (he says "maybe one double") and it sounds like a lot of 10 mile runs at 6:00 pace -- before the change.
I am still blown away that Schumacher and Wetmore were so successful with a one-run-a-day programs ... Wetmore goes longer with 12 mile runs.
But I think that it took a long time for Dathan and Matt to overcome this 10-12 mile a day program (which had them injured more often than not) in favor of more doubles.
Also, the interview is funny as he makes a distinction between two runs of 10 miles at 6:00 down to 5:20 and 6:00 down to 5:00 as ... a progression run and a tempo run, respectively. Those are the same workout! They are also both too slow for a 13:30 5k runner and the other top-talent UWisco had at that time.
From what I have read about Solinsky, it sounds like the mileage they are doing has increased since their college days. I really think that having a couple years of consistent training and running more than 75 mpw (that is not even in the game) is what has lead to a few bright performances for Teg and Ritz this year.
I hope for the best for Solinsky, Teg, Ritz, Rupp, Jager and several other bright spots for the US next year. Hopefully no illness or injury and they can all reach their current potential.
