I run 2 miles then do 50 situps and pushups daily.
I normally buy only one pair of running shoes per year.
Is that adequate for someone who does not race at all?
What changes should I make, if any, if my sole goal is health not competition?

None, if you're content with this routine.
You do more than most Americans, be content with that.
I'd buy shoes every six months, though, provided you're not
wearing them for anything BUT running.
