Check out this guy who anchored the U.S. 4 x 1500 team in '79. He has THE FASTEST 4X1500 RELAY LEG EVER (yes, including today). Anyone know his PR's, etc?

Well, I have this year's USATF annual, and their all-time U.S. lists in it go to 3:36.72 in the 1500 and 3:55.42 in the mile and he's not on either one.
Dan Aldridge was also famous for running 1:49.7, not once, but twice his senior ear (Petaluma) and then LOSING the California State meet.

tom duits had personal best's in open races of 3:59.20 run in the penn relays mile, and he ran 3:39.44 for his open personal best in a meet at ucla, both of these races were in 1978.
he went and ran for western michigan university and is the first runner from michigan to run under 4 minutes for the mile.

So the mystery deepens: how does a 3:59/3:39 guy get the anchor leg with guys like Aldridge and Harbour on the team, and then commence to demolish his PR with no one in front of him... never to repeat said performance (apparently)????
The WMU profile says he was a 1500-5k guy, but I remember him as more of an 800m runner? Trained in Gainesville a few years after college.
