WOW Congrats to Joseph EBUYA who broke 13 in Brussels to get 6th place!!! This is probably the biggest news story of the day.

i agree i hope there is video up soon, this man might come close to being a backup or something of the sort for a championship team soon... might even make it as waterboy
I guess the Africans finally learned how to use a computer
My sentiments exactly. I watched this race live. Compared to Ritz's run a week ago this is not nearly as exciting. Teg was with a big group at the bell and finished DFL in that group. You could say that he was competitive because at least he was in it with a lap to go in a fast race. But he got blown away by everyone else who was in that group.
Compare that to Ritz, who was charging hard in the last 1k of his race, passing people, acting fully game for 2nd place with 100 to go. He lost that duel and finished third but no one in the race closed the last 1k or 800 as fast as Ritz, not even Bekele.
Ritz ran fast AND was competitive. Teg ran fast and got his ass handed to him. 7th place is nothing to get excited about. It was a good time by Teg but his hard charging 4th place at the WCs a few years back is more impressive.
Woo hoo great run by Joseph Ebuya!!!
How many under 13 on the Kenyan 5k list now?
No, I think that the point here is really that in Kenya and Ethiopia, everyone believes that sub 13 can be done and a lot of guys train hard enough to do it, and lo and behold at a time when Americans have a bunch of guys training hard and right, and one American believes that it is possible, thanks to his coach, and breaks thirteen, another one who seemed long overdue does it himself in short order. In BK's time no one else among the Americans was as talented and hard working and when Lagat did it, it inspired no belief in its possibility because Lagat was Kenyan born and raised, and had run three two six. Perhaps in a few years it won't be that much news when an American born runner breaks thirteen, just as it isn't when Ebuya does it.

Don't broadcast that. Inability to understand is a sign of stupidity.

There has to be something there to understand.
Screw off asshole trolls! As much as I hate jonesy, he is correct and you know it. Go crawl back under a rock troll scum.
woo hoo ebuya is the new savior. the great kenyan hope. he mixed it up with the other africans.
hilarious thread..
white ppl are crazy.
Ebuya should have thrown a sucker punch at Bekele after the race. If you want T&F to get attention in America it looks like that is what you have to do.
it's not hard to understand. belief, preparation, talent, and opportunity (getting into a fast euro race) are necessary to break 13. belief was the last ingredient for teg and ritz. teg already had everything but belief, maybe stinting a little on the fast opportunities and ritz's performance put him over the top. ritz always had the talent, but salazar gave him the added prep, the speed and altitude work, the opportunity (his connections plus ritz's 10k world's performance got him into that race), and the belief. There'll be several more American born runners taking down 13 in the next four years, Rupp, Solinsky, Jager, and German being prime candidates.
