i'm a short runner, 5'7.
i was wondering if being a little taller helps in the 800m/1500ms?

yes. leo manzano would run 1:37 and 3:21 if he were 6'1.
It depends on if your legs are relatively long or if they are stubby.
Jose Parilla wasnt much taller, maybe 5"8, had SHORT legs and ran 45 and 1:43.
Yes, Paul Bunyon, the great lumberjack, who was often referred to as "the gentle giant," had a great 800 meter time as well as 1500 meters. It was funny, because in all of what seemed to be 5 - 10 strides, he'd cover the distance and the race was over.
So to answer your question, yes, Paul Bunyon could beat anybody shorter than him without superpowers.
Geb & Bekele are really short. I know the 1500 isn't their main event, but they are still pretty decent at it.
800 and 1500m guys seem to be a bit taller than 5k and 10k guys, with marathoners being even smaller. Coe was fairly short though. I think it matters more what % FT/%ST muscle you are made of more than height.
height has nothing to do with being good at any running event. There are numerous examples of tall and short runners as world leaders and world record holders. Think, Geb and Bekele don't even focus on the 1500m and both have run 3:32 or faster. They are 5-4 and 5-3 i think. Webb is 5-7 and has run 3:46 for the mile and 27:34 for the 10k - he has "short" legs and is about 5-7 i think.
