Are the Lunar Racers decent racing flats for the marathon?
Also, I am considering some of those tight, compression-like shorts instead of regular shorts. Like the bottoms of a speed suit, not sure what they are officially called.
I wear them for long runs a lot, and just figured I might as well wear them to race since I think they feel better and I have fewer issues with chafing, etc.
What say you?

The tight-shorts are a good idea since you seem to prefer them in training anyway.
The Lunar Racers are great flats for the marathon, provided you're fast and light enough to benefit from them. Most people I know get a couple of short runs plus a long run in them prior to the marathon just to make sure they still feel good when they're slightly fatigued.
I know plenty of people who have great luck with the LunaRacer in the marathon. Do at least one of your 20 milers in them before you try them in the marathon to make sure they work for you though. They last thing you want is to find out on race day that they hurt your feet on a long run.
You need to try on a few pairs of shoes with the other gear that you're going to wear so that you can see what pair looks best with the other stuff. I like to match my shoes and fanny pack and wear shorts and a shirt that are a complimentary color.

They are for sprinting, so yeah, you are gonna be running too slow.

Why though, I mean a lot of people wear them for longer distances.
They feel better to me, but I am self conscious about wearing them.
About the shorts... If your race is on Universal Sports, the British announcers will make fun of you....
I wear then for speed work, but not for the marathon. But I do see your point about chafing..
LunarRacers are great shoes for marathon, but do wear them for a long run before hand. They have a tendency to give people blisters/rubs in peculiar spots. The toe box can be narrow and some people get nasty achilles rubs...
