We've all heard people telling us to take ibuprofen when something hurts or we have a minor injury, but what's the right way to take it. How much per day? Take it before or after a run, or both? Is it really worth taking in the long run?

My coach always told me to take 400 milligrams 3 times per day for 3 days then stop.
Any thoughts?

Not sure a coach should be prescribed medication--even OTC meds.
one pill followed by one shot of alcohol. repeat until pain is gone.
i usually stick them up my ass. absorb faster.
This is not the advice he needs. They only put the directions for pain killing on the box. If you want to have ANY anti-inflammatory effect you have to take MUCH more. Look for what they recommend for people with arthritis. Something along the lines of 800 mg of ibuprofen every eight hours.
just don't take it. Stop being such a pussy.
There is a serious issue at the heart of this question. I just heard about one of our local ultra runners, Eric Skaggs, who recently won the Where's Waldo 100k. Apparently, during the race he did not take much to eat or drink, but later on took some ibuprofen. The combination of empty stomach, low hydration, and long race put him in the hospital with kidney failure.
