He should be able to run <27.
He should be able to run <27.
Depends if he can spike his testosterone like he did for Zurich. Oh, and get away with it again.
I'm wondering at this point in the season if he can find the necessary pace setters.
Besides that, my feeling is that it would be kind of cool if he made an attempt with in the next couple weeks, but otherwise, its not that big of deal. People seem anxious for him to make an attempt as if its a once in lifetime opportunity while he is in peak shape. I like to think he is going to be even better next year and that the AR will fall then.
Is it perhaps that some people are worried that Rupp will emerge and take the AR for himself next year?
Worried about Rupp next year? Doubt it.
Sure it's entirely possible Ritz benefits more from a season+ with Salazar and his group. But in life, shit happens. All kinds of shit. Gather ye rosebuds while ye may!
he should go out on top, and call it a season.
"he should go out on top, and call it a season"
thats what she said
He isn't the most injury-free runner ever, so wait until next year after he spends 6 months on an underwater treadmill may not be the best idea. Agreed, if training goes well and he stays healthy he'll be even better then.

I see no reason why he shouldn't. Can't walk on eggshells hoping not to get injured, and you should strike while the iron is hot. Assuming he not injured or sick or has bad weather or some unforeseen thing, the AR in the 10,000 is his for the taking, as I've said for years. No disrespect meant to Meb, but it is amazing to me that that AR has stood as long as it has. It is arguably the softest of the ARs out there (considering the talent the US has right now). I expect low 27s to be run by more than one US runner in the near future. I still say Ritz can go 26:50 at some point and maybe even a tad quicker.
The 10k record probably gets some added life just because there aren't as many rabbited races out there that are fast enough. Which, assuming Ritz is going for it this year, might still be an issue. I hope he can put something together.

He did take a drug test right after the race, so I think they would have caught that.
