What is the earliest date a DI XC team can compete in 2009? Does anyone?
What is the earliest date a DI XC team can compete in 2009? Does anyone?
Come on, someone has to know.
I've seen meets scheduled for this coming Friday and Saturday (9/4 and 9/5).
NCAA Rule Book:
The earliest date for the first date of competition in the sport of cross country is September 1 unless September 1st falls on either Saturday, Sunday or Monday. If September 1st falls on Saturday, Sunday or Monday, the first date of competition shall be no earlier than the preceding Friday.
According to this year's calendar, the first date of permissible competition in NCAA Division I is tomorrow, September 1.
Thank you. I wondered.
Do you know if it is the same for DII?
So what happens if say a team raced a week too early? No big deal?
noneone on theis board knows anything other than how to complain
Then how can WVU have a meet on August 29? Does it matter that they changed people after the fact to unattached? Seems like a top 5 NCAA team would know better.
it also depends on when they start school....
The post from the rule book is correct, as far as d-3 goes. Can't speak for d-1 or d-2 but I have a feeling it's similar, if not the same. Sep. 1 was our first allowable competition date this year and it was the same for all of our fall sports.
WVU ran a JV meet on their home course where all runners ran "unattached". They did not represent WVU in the race and it wasn't changed "after the fact". You can look at pictures from the race and all the runners are in regular running clothes. Not wvu uniforms.
"The Wesleyan women, meanwhile, turned in a second place finish with 46 points. West Virginia won the women's side with 15 points while Charleston came in third with 83."
West Virginia needs to self report themselves. It is a clear violation, even if the runners are listed as unattached. It is obvious that this was an intercollegiate competition.
It will be interesting to see what the NCAA gives them as a penalty.
Regardless of what they were wearing, they hosted the event. It was essentially a scrimmage against outside competition. It is a clear violation of the NCAA Rule mandating the first date of competition as September 1st. A scrimmage is listed specifically as an example of a violation.
They should be very thankful this is coming out now instead of someone reporting it the week before the Big East or worse the NCAA Regional. They are lucky!
So, all three of these teams have a violation against themselves?
It's still on their own schedule
ha ha now you know why the big schools get better. they don't have to follow the rules.
I think a coach in Richmond needs to get his head out of his ass. That way he can see things more clearly instead of making blind accusations.
