David McCarthy,Ciaran O'Lionaird,Brendan O'Neill,Craig Murphy,David Rooney,David Flynn..........
McCarthy 6-8
O'Lionaird 8-12
Murphy 25-40
O'Neill 25-40
Flynn and Rooney probably won't even qualify for NCAAs.
It will be unfortunate for whoever loses between Murphy and O'Neill because then they won't go to the Europeans because criteria is first three at Irish Nationals and then three wildcards, and all four will be better then any other u23 that compete at Irish Nationals, although John Coghlan would be close. Since most of the best Irish u23s do go to American Universities, AAI should change criteria to first two at NCAAs, first two at Irish Nats and two wildcards or something along the lines of that.

O'Neill 25-40? That's ridiculous. He's a sporadic runner with 14:10 PB. There are over 100 guys in NCAA with equal 5k PB's as well as many other with superior PB's in 1500, 3k, 3kST, 10k and just XC specialists. He won't get a whiff of qualifying for NC's.
McCarthy could possibly be that high, but more likely 10-20.
O'Lionaird will be 50-70 on a good day but I predict around 120-140.
Murphy flirting with the top 100.
O'Neill, Flynn and Rooney will not qualify for the meet.
No way! O'Lionaird will be within 10 places of McCarthy at most. The FSU switch will do him the world of good. If O'Neill can stay injury free he will be close to Murphy and I think that will be around the 60s. 'kerry man spillane', your predictions are very optomistic but I agree with on the European Cross Selection Criteria. It will be some team though and they'll all be eligable for u23 next year aswell!
Your saying Murphy will beat O'Lionaird! Thats not gonna happen.
McCarthy ftw at Euros!!
Not this year, but over the next three years, Murphy could grab a few team medals with Iona. McCarthy and O'Lionaird could sneak team medals with Providence and FSU aswell next year

I'd expect a fully fit Brendan O'Neill to be well ahead of Murphy.
Don't think people appreciate the obscenely high standard of the NCAAs though. Half the field are gonna be around 14min 5k guys. Top 80 is SERIOUS running!
Why did O'Neill pick Northeastern? He should be thinking bigger?
Why are there so many Irish-focused thread on LR these days?
Taking over the place they are
Did McCarthy race over the summer?
he medaled at the U23 Euros I believe (bronze?)but it was only 14 flat and I dont think he ran many races, so no PBs. And outdoor he looked real good winning his Mt Sac heat in 13:42, i really think the 5k is his future. But he returned to the 15 and really struggled to run 3:40.
john jacob jingleheimer schmidt
He ran 2 5ks
1 3k and 3 15s. His times were 13:42,7:56,3:41
His last race was Euro u23s (Bronze) in mid-july. Would of ran faster times had he had longer season, something like
3:37,7:52,13:33
murphy should be in the 60's

"would have run"
OK I understand where your coming from with 'would have run' but McCarthy is so consistent and improving all the time, he always pulls 'em outta the bag. We're not talking about a prone choker and underacheiver like most Irish athletes here. This guy is different. He's gonna go far.

The guy was racing from January 24 until July 16 and ran the same every time. Don't think the system at Providence would've helped him peak any better with an even LONGER season.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
