Goal Race: Chicago
Goal Time: 2:35-2:40
Really crappy week for me. I have something going on with my right hip/groin/lower back area. I think it first popped up a few weeks ago but seemed to get alot worse this week. It goes away once I'm warmed up so I ran through it for a few days, then thought better of it and took 2 days off which didn't help much. This morning during my run I realized that I had backed off doing the lunge excercises I had been doing, so I went through my routine and my right glute/hammy is extremely sore (the good post workout sore) while my left is totally fine, so I am wondering if a muscular imbalance is to blame.
M- AM: 4 easy, PM: 8 easy +10x100m strides
T- AM: 3 up, with a couple strides. 5x 1,200m with 2:30 rest between. Splits: 3:55, 3:58, 4:01, 4:02, 4:00. 5.5 down. Felt pretty comfortable at that pace but was pretty whiped out by the end of the second one. Better pacing than my last track workout. PM: 4 easy.
W- AM: 15 moderate, PM: 4 easy
TH- AM: 4 easy, PM: 5 easy
F- DNR, resting leg
S- DNR, resting leg
S- AM: 7 easy, PM: 3 easy
Total for week, 70 miles.
Basically when I wake up in the AM and take a step I have a short/sharp and vague shooting pain that goes down my right leg from hip to about halfway to the knee. It doesn't hurt standing, doesn't hurt hopping and doesn't hurt doing range of motion excercises or the leg dangle test. Only when take a step. Once I run and it warms up, the pain goes from groing to hip flexor, to outer hip, to buttock/back and then disappears after 20-30 minutes. It feels great after the run. I'm thinking possible causes stress fracture (femur, pelvis or sacrum), sciatica, muscular imbalance, sports hernia or labral tear. It goes away once I warm up so stress fracture is unlikely, though it could be a stress reaction. I've had a femoral SF before and it's definitely not anything like this which is a relief. Sciatica is possible, as is a muscular imbalance, I don't know if sciatica would go away after a warmup. Sports hernia is unlikely because it really doesn't affect the groin much, also does hurt to cough or sneeze. Labral tear is unlikely as their is no popping or clicking, no range of motion restriction or pain and there was no traumatic event prior to the onset.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know! Plan is to keep treating it with ice, heat, stretching and strengthening. Will try to go to my ortho on tuesday or wednesday is it isn't getting better as I want to make sure I don't turn a small problem into a big one.
Hoping this week is better and I am able to run the 20k on Labor day. Have a good week everyone!
