I just graduated and am headed to UCSB. My happiness was questionable in HS yet for some reason i really miss it... especially senior year even tho it was filled with drama

No, not really. I'm 35 and never have.
I enjoyed HS, too, especially running on my team, but I have never gotten nostalgic or wanted to be back there or missed it.
I do, however, sometimes find myself saying stuff like, "My High School coach used to say....." but I have never said that about my college coach.
College was so much better than HS. I miss college days, not HS.
Some people peak in high school. Their life never really gets any better. People like this always wax nostalgic about high school.
Most people peak later in life, and don't give a shit about what happened in high school.
I know I felt like that at first. But entering my sophomore year of college, I'm glad I've moved on. There were some great experiences in HS (especially the XC team), some great experiences already in college and I'm sure there are some great experiences to come later in my life.
Trust me, college will be fun. The academic part is harder but the social life can't be beat.
No. You become semi-emancipated when you go away to college, and then fully emancipated after that. So...no
Just before I graduated I thought that I would be nostalgic once I left, but I really never was. Kind of surprised me, but I really never looked back all that much.
I do, but I teach and coach at my old high school.
Remember this:
Once when asked why the Beatles wouldn't get back together George Harrison said because it would be like going back to school.
You only remember the good things.

I absolutely miss high school with all my heart. For some reason I seem to be the minority amongst my friends about this. It seems like a lot of people must have had really shitty experiences in high school for whatever reason, and they have totally sour memories of that time.
I definitely enjoyed college and am enjoying my post-college life, but for different reasons. And there are certainly aspects of my life now that are better than they were back in high school. But for me, it's the complete package that just can't be beat. All things considered, I was on top of my game back then, and everything in my life was just golden. I excelled at school, loved running, had enormous amounts of fun with my friends, and had parents who did all the cooking/cleaning/etc. I think it also helps to look back at the present time because at age 25 I have a different outlook on life. I would no longer be bothered by some of the little things that might have annoyed me at the time and that seem so unimportant now.
People who get nostalgic about high school are those who had the best time of their life there. The excelled at being a god football player on a shitty team the whole school thought was very good. This kind of person actually had a semi-attractive cheerleader/slut girlfriend that he likes to reminisce about cause she would give him (and every other football player BJs under the bleachers). This kind of person graduated and went to a shitty college where he got wasted from the home sickness and not being popular at all anymore. Now he comes to his hs football games and watches in the crowd screaming at every play. He lives in his mom's basement and dreams about those good old days of 18 and stupid.

Many of us had fine experiences in high school, but prefer being adults with all the freedoms and responsibilities it entails.

I hardly keep in touch with anyone from high school. The thing about high school is that most kids don't choose what high school to go to. They go to the school their zoned into, or they go to the private school their parents send them to. College, however, is usually a place of your choosing, so you actually have more in common with the other kids in your college. You'll likely make better, longer lasting friends in college.
I agree that people who are overly nostalgic about high school are probably leading a shitty life.
I feel like if i started over as a frosh with the maturity of an almost 19 year old that i could have fun.... The stupid stuff wouldnt get to me! In hs i was just. A tall skinny 1830 515 guy turned smoker/blazer my senior year, i have more bad mmries than good and im pumped for UCSB yet i cant help but feel nostalgic
I very much doubt if after your first year of college, you are as nostalgic about high school as you are now. College is wayyyyyyyyyyy better.
Class of 2001 here. My twenties have been far better than my teenage years in every way, but I still get very nostalgic. It's just my personality. I still visit my high school several several times a year and run the track and the trails, and I usually go to the homecoming football game and whatever events are open to the public, just to kind of bask in the fact that I used to go there. It seems like ancient history or a past life, and it's just a personal experience for me to reflect on it all. I like to stop by the bathroom and take a piss in my favorite urinal- "the ol pisseroo," as I like to call it.
in four years you'll be nostalgic as hell for your college days. make sure you appreciate your time at UCSB! i'd give my left nut to be 18 again and going to SB. although, i'm sure i would have flunked out of that place with the beach and tail around there.
all the f***ing time! But I also get apologetically nostalgic about college, elementary school, last week...you name it.
you're probably a freshman in college. of course you're saying that now. there's not a kid in the world who doesn't want to get away from home when they're 18.
i had a great experience in college. i miss high school more. my life now is great. you are wrong.
absolutely not.
