wait, what do you want us to do?
cruz 800m
Joaquim Cruz
It's been a long (2009-1984) 25 year drought since Cruz won a mdeal. Not as bad as the Chicago Cubs or Frisco Giants though.

I thought sure the Cubs would win a medal in Berlin, but they couldn't handle the pressure.
You mean Cruz didn't win silver in 1988?
1988 ? Jeeze. 21 years is a long time. We have to wait two more grueling years for the next shot at redemption, Daegu 2011. When will the nightmare ever end ?
A slightly different question: who was the U of O student to medal in the Olympics/IAAF Outdoor WCs?
This is kind of a loaded question because it is indeed rare for any college student to medal at the Olympics. Normally an athlete is out of college before they medal at Olympics.

I'm going to guess Harry Jerome in one of the sprint races in 64'. Although that may have been the summer after his senior year so I'm not sure that counts. Won bronze I believe.
Olympic Medalists: 1960 to present: Mac Wilkins won the Gold in 1976 and the Silver in 1984. Neil Steinhouaer was a world record holder in the shot (not sure of his Olympic medal status). Otis Davis won two Golds in 1960. Wade Bell won an Olympic Silver in 800 meters. Both Bill Dellinger and Harry Jerome won an Olympic Bronze in 1964. Joaquim Cruz won the Gold in 1984 and the Silver in 1988.
Lisa Martin. Silver medal. 1988 Marathon.
Camara Jones, Gold at WC in 1995.
Mike Boit was a U of O grad student during the late 70s early 80s, but his Munich 800 medal preceded his enrollment. The same can be said for El G, as he is currently enrolled.
Wow. Pretty impressive list of men AND women who attended University of Oregon and have medaled at the Olympics and the WC's. This gives me a better perspective of why Oregon is such a historic track school.
