This year the bandwagon has gone from Rupp (with reservations) to Fernandez...back to Rupp, then to Teg, now to Ritz who hasn't been well loved since he ran that 8:11 deuce.
Salazar is now a good coach again all of a sudden...and Hudson.
I guess I got smothered by the Letsrun hatred. I shouldn't be surprised by this performance. Ritz dominated 5K cross races in high school. He took bronze at Junior Cross. He ran 13:27 as a freshman (pretty much the same as Fernandez who everyone assumes will easily break 13 eventually). He improved his speed (8:11 2-mile years ago), and has been improving his aerobic power with 2 years of marathon training. He just ran a 10K PR in a smart championship race. All the clues were there...
I guess I let the overthinking Letsrun banter convince me Ritz is and always would be a 2:10, 27:25, 13:15 guy.
So whose bandwagon will the Letsrun crowd leap aboard next? Will Teg amaze in Brussels?
