Let's be clear -- and I am a big Ritz fan -- what happened yesterday was a combination of good training, the right race, and an unbelievably good day for him.
We've seen how the typical progression goes -- think Bob Kennedy or Bernard Lagat, whittling away a few seconds at a time. When someone drops 20-30 seconds off a PR in the 5k, well, that's entirely unexpected.
I think Ritz ran out of his mind, and I don't expect we'll ever see a sub-13:00 out of him again. Regardless, way to go Ritz!
