Well duh considering yahoo sports does not even have a section for track and field, but has a section for literally most every other sport you can think of, even w/ the mainstream success of bolt and controversy of semenya.
Well, it's hard to explain to them why a third place matters. They never much mentioned Shalane's third in the 10,000 in Beijing, did they...nor did TV show it before midnight Eastern time.
I'm thrilled with what Ritz did. You're thrilled with what Ritz did. Nike is thrilled. And we all expect more. It's all good.
I don't think runners went into it for the money and the public will decide if they are interested. Things do go in cycles and I think the next three years will reveal a unique breed of American men and women runners.
ESPN goes with only "Dathan Ritzenhein finished third in the 5,000 in 12:56.27, setting a new American record. Ritzenhein, who improved his personal record by nearly 20 seconds, is just the third American ever to run under 13 minutes."
Bolt gets 8 times that much coverage.
Isinbayeva gets 5 times that much coverage.
Richards gets 4 times that much coverage.
Mainstream media rightfully considers the sport to be a circus of dopers so it's no wonder they'd ignore pretty much everything about it.
Those are cheap insider trade rags read only by coaches, athletes, and suppliers; and heavily censored public relations / propaganda websites. The real news media and press doesn't give a shit about a 3rd place finish and a no WC nor Oly medal athlete like Ritzenhein.
It's actually the second time Ritz has been on the front page of Runner's World in about eight days

Bolt has 8 times the accomplishments, Isinbayeva has 5 times the accomplishments, Richards has 4 times the accomplishments.
... and Baseball, Football, and Basketball aren't full of druggies?
guess your right...nothing yet on ESPN track and field wire
They understand winning and world records. No disrespect to Ritz but American sprinters are winning and setting world record on a fairly regular basis and are not covered by the media.
They are but they're also far more popular with the general public than track ever has been or will be so those sins don't have as much impact on general perception. If we want our sport and its athletes and performances to ever be taken seriously again then we need to make a real effort to rid it of PEDs, something like what cycling did over the past few years. I'm not holding my breath, though, and I can't blame anyone for being suspicious of our top performers because we, collectively, have not done more to convince the powers that be to put some real teeth into anti-doping efforts.
Duh... RW/RT is not the main press. RW/RT is an T&F industry publication.
What American male sprinters have been winning or setting World Records in the last 2-3 years?
You mean other than the quarter mile sweep at the Olympics. The best 400h in the world. 6 guys who could podium at at 110h, The 2nd best 100/200 guy in the world (who would have the world record except for Bolt's freakish performances), the 4 by 4 Olympic record/world championship.
Look at this Reuters wire article about the meet. No mention of Ritz but they mention plenty of other people who didn't win. I mean they even mention the steeple chase! That is the most marginal of all track events in terms of the mainstream media."Kenya's Ezekiel Kemboi won the men's 3,000 steeplechase in 8:04.44, where Olympic champion and compatriot Brimin Kipruto finished back in eighth place.Another world champion, Ryan Brathwaite of Barbados, finished third in the 110 meters hurdles."http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2009/08/28/sports/sports-us-athletics-golden.html

I'm sorry is Ritz a former olympic or world champ? These were noteworthy because as former world/olympic champions they were noteworthy (and presumably among the favorites).
So what? Screw the mainstream media. They are tools of the big corporations. Since Track has a small following, the corps and media arent interested. god forbid that they should report on anything not involving money. I know I'm in a small sport but I dont really give a rats ass.
