I've been looking through the start lists for Zurich... what a meet! I wanted to mention some of the events and why they might be significant.
Women's 100: Kerron Stewart (JAM) is alive for the jackpot but she'll have to race Shelly Ann Fraser and Carmelita Jeter. Fraser won in Berlin and Beijing and she seems to be "better" than Stewart. I always wonder if there is any deal-making going on between sprinters to help one of them win a lot of money. Jeter is, I think, more dangerous in a one-off competition rather than the rounds of a championship.
Women's 400: Sanya Richards is also alive in the jackpot and looks the best of all the contenders (Bekele, Stewart and Isinbayeva). This time Allyson Felix is in the race. Also, Jamaica's Shericka Williams is very fit and who knows if Christine Ohuruogu will continue to get better as the season progresses.
Women's Pole Vault: Isinbayeva's first meet since her shocking no-height in Berlin. That was her second consecutive pole vault defeat (Crystal Palace she also lost to Anna Rogowska, who won in Berlin). All the top vaulters are there, except world #2 Jenn Stuczynski who is injured in the US.
Women's 1500: all 3 american finalists (Wurth-Thomas, Rowbury and Willard) are in a stacked race that if paced competently (a big if) should see several sub-4:00 performances. Jamal, 3 Kenyans (Jebet especially), Alminova and Dobriskey are the "big names".
The 1500 is the only women's distance event.
The Women's High Jump is basically an olympic final and has every big name: Vlasic, Friedrich, Beitia, Chicherova, Howard, and Di Martino.
Women's 100H: Lolo gets to compete against all 3 berlin medalists plus Dawn Harper gets a shot at redemption after a disappointing Berlin final.
