Does Nike make a pair of shorts like the Race Day (pretty short) with an inside pocket rather than on the back? The Tempo maybe? Is the Tempo split leg? I can't tell from the pictures but it doesn't look split. Thanks for any help.

the tempos are really short, and do not have splits.
The 2" split shorts have an internal key pocket according to Running Warehouse. Check them out at

Reading Nike's website, the tempo shorts have an "internal card/key/media-player pocket."
No, the Tempo are not splits.
They're pretty good V-notch shorts with a fairly short (3.5") inseam. The inside pocket is pretty big, supposedly to hold yr MP3 player. It's in an odd location - southeast like Florida, if you're facing north toward Fargo and yr ass crack is Texas. Shorts and liner fit well, seem solid, dry fast.
What in the world does split means????
I'd say the pocket is in South Carolina but sometimes to dig the key out I need to go to SE FL to find it. If I dig all the way to Texas I need to turn around.

Thanks for the laugh.

I have a pair of the shorts linked to in this post, and they do indeed have an internal pocket in the back. I think it's more designed for an MP3 player (in split shorts, wtf?) because it's shaped like an iPod and has no "top flap" that folds over to prevent the key from falling out. However, the pocket is deep enough that I haven't had that problem. They are pretty nice shorts for the money ($30).

That you should never wear them when there are more than 10mph wind gusts. What is means is that the shorts are mostly not stitched together on what would be the seam on the outside of the hips.
I tend to have an Eeek! Eyeball bleach! to them after doing a 5K race in the middle of a landfalling tropical storm (steady winds in the low 30s, gusts in the 45 mph range) and far too many participants out there had gone with split shorts with WHITE linings, and once the wind was blowing, you saw everyone's junk including the 60+ fat guy crowd.

I think the real issue is that 60+ fat guys should not be wearing split shorts.
