I purchased a refurbished G4 powerbook 5-6 years ago and never had any problems with it. A friend of mine purchased dozens of Apple refurbs for his company and also had good luck.
I've generally found the discount is nowhere near half unless you're looking at a previous version of a given machine, in which case you're not making the right comparison. Usually the discount is 20-25% off the same model new.
I bought a refurbished powerbook g4, really like it. Unfortunately I got one that after about 4 months developed the memory slot problem common with those specific machines, but for what I use it for, it has never been a problem.
I would suggest if you are going refurbished, go with an intel one.
I wouldn't buy a refurb unless you are an electronics technician, PC repairman, or electrical engineer.
Great buys. Just make sure what you're getting (some models are significantly older, and therefore cheaper - sometimes this is okay, other times you'll be sorry).
I've had two refurb iPods and a refurb iMac and never had any problems. It can be a great deal, but pay close attention to the specs you are buying so you know what generation machine you are getting.
Also, my refurb iMac came with both a bigger hard drive and more RAM than was advertised, and apparently this happens a lot. Don't count on it, but it can be a nice bonus.
ive never had any problem with my imac.
a fantastic deal
