So, I am having achilles issues for the second time in two years. I had only been doing about 30 miles a week although relatively high intensity for me, and I'm overweight (6'2" 190), just FYI. Been running in Saucony Omnigrid 7s.
I have been icing, doing eccentric heel exercises and wearing a Strassburg sock to bed, and there is no longer any tightness or creakiness when I wake up in the morning. I got some Nike Free 5.0s since I hear they are good for foot strengthening and achilles injury prevention, and on Sunday I took them out for a 15 min jog, and it felt fine, although I definitely did notice some different muscles being used in my arch and lower leg because of the Frees I guess. Iced immediately afterward.
Yesterday (Tuesday) I tried again with a 20 min jog, and there was intermittent sharp achilles pain throughout. I again iced immediately afterward, wore the sock to bed, and once again woke up without any tightness.
what's my problem? do I try running again or just do another week or two of rehab?
