That is very sad. It is strange the drivers are not ever held accountable. That vehicle must have been going at high speed to have gotten so banged up from hitting her. People should be of more importance than cars.
This is her blog.
people, when you are out on the roads, you have to have an almost paranoid vigilance. the 3000 pound missles are not going to avoid you...make sure you assume that.
Really sad and tragic. Stay off the roads when possible, friends. And be super vigilant when you're on them. Look both ways!!
This is truly horrible to hear, and another reminder why I never run in the road. I hate driving and seeing runners in the road because it scares me to think that the smallest accidental tap with my car could seriously hurt them.
This is exactly why one should not play RuneQuest outdoors.

A couple hours ago I knuckle rapped the back of a car flying down a small ramp that joins a main road. Two signs and a large crosswalk across the ramp. I took one step and she didn't even slow. I hope it scared the crap out of her and she dropped the cellphone out the window.
It's fine to make drivers aware but always assume that they are not aware.
I don't care if you are in a cross walk with a green light and the walk sign. A car with a green light behind you making a right is still likely to get you.
Look back and make eye contact with the driver. If you don't make eye contact, stop and let them through.
It's just not worth it to be dead right.
I used to be a tough guy until I got hit by a car one day. Nothing major, just got banged up pretty bad. Bad enough that I realized it wasn't worth it to "prove a point."
People love you, even if you are a detestable LetsRunner, think about them if you don't find yourself valuable enough to back down to the idiot drivers.
What's a runer? Is that anything like a snipe?
The story said that the investigation is still ongoing. Perhaps the driver will be held accountable. Or perhaps the runner will be found in the wrong. Give justice some time to work here.

Good Points made here, whenever I run I just assume the worst drivers in the world are out at the same time and always stay as alert as possible. A race director in my area always says before an event "don't pick a fight with a car, you will never win".

Sometimes drivers can do some crazy sh!t when you can't even see them coming. I had a car come from behind and turn left in front of me into a miniature golf facility. The guy's tires squealed from turning so hard while driving too fast. He breezed by me with no more than 18 inches between us. To add insult to injury, he cut off a motorcyclist coming from the other direction. That guy had to hit his brakes to keep from colliding.
Another time, I was running along a rural highway when a muscle car decided to pass another car as they approached behind me. The passing car, over double yellow lines no less, swung too far to the left and hit the shoulder I was running along. Again, there was no more than a foot and a half between us as he went by in a blur.
Runners must be hyper-vigilant nowadays, for all the obvious distractions that drivers currently allow themselves while behind the wheel. I never, never, carry tunes along with me when I run. We need to see and hear EVERYTHING going on around us.

This happened to me once, too. My teammates on the left of me felt like they almost got hit, meanwhile I was closer to the car than them. Still look back every time I hear a car coming from the other direction on those kind of roads.
So today at lunch I am on a run crossing a street at an intersection with a light.
The light is red and I am on the right side. I will cross during a red light if it is totaly clear - not legal but not dangerous.
Two cars come in my direction to make right turns. I let the first one pass.
I am looking at the next driver. I see an opportunity for him to go and me as well. It looks like he passes up the opportunity so I lean with intention to dart across. Before I take a step, the driver goes, looking to the left, never at me.
I am completely thinking about this thread while this is going on. Now the driver was in the right because he can make a right on red while I am supposed to wait for green.
If I were more anxious I would have been hit.
The absolute worst situation I've found is when you are running against traffic, and someone is turning right onto the street. They only look left, never right, because they only care about oncoming car traffic.
i fu%%ing hate cars. this woman seemed so sweet, reading her blog. she was so excited to run her next marathon. i wish i had a time machine.

Yeah it really is sad. I hate them too.
I was looking all around on my run this morning. I'm going to change my course so it will be farther from traffic.
Agreed.
If you hit a human being you are at fault and should be behind bars. This woman wasn't hit by a car. She was KILLED by a driver! Unless she jumped out of the trees at the last minute - this guy is at fault, as is every driver who kills a person.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
