so who is lagat's coach and why don't we ever talk about him or lagat's training? I would consider them both fairly successful if you ask me. Anything aside from drug accusations would be appreciated.

Here read this:

His name is James Li and he is originally from China. Became a citizen of the US in 1998. Lagat uses high intensity and relatively low mileage training (or so he says).
thanks, good article the consistency seems to be the key maybe at the cost of more miles. kinda goes against what a lot of people think is really needed with the rampant "lydardism" and 100 mile weeks
Running times did an article on Lagat last year that said similar things. He doesn't train very high mileage, but it's not low either. He trains at high intensities but again, not too high.
His coach's philosophy relaly does seem to be consistency. Consistent, tough workouts that slowly improve his fitness. I think he has a very good balance in his training: doesn't run too many or two few miles, doesn't train too hard or too easy, etc.
Interesting in that NYtimes article that he only trains once a day.
I've seen many conflicting reports on Lagat's training.
The only things that seem to always pop up are ~65 miles a week and high intensity.
The same system is working wonders at U of A.
