I don't know much of anything about electronics.
I need to use a stereo in a place where there's no outlets. Is it possible to rig the AC power hook up to a car battery?
How would I go about doing this?

You can use an inverter but depending on how many watts your stereo pulls, it might not have enough power. The inverter plugs into your cigarette lighter or can be clipped to your battery.

Go to an auto parts store, like Pep Boys, and you'll find cigarette lighter converters.
I don't run anything 120v, but I do have a set up with a cigarette plug spliter, so there are two of them. One plug is for my GPS unit. The other plug has two USB connections, one I use for a phone, and other for an iPod.
If I would have bought a three-way splitter (there are four-way splitters also), I could have had one extra plug for connection something like a laptop, but it's not something I ever do.
...and get an inverter as mentioned by Mr. Oblivious to get 120v power.
Thanks fellaz
So I'm looking at one of the inverters on that site. It was 200watts of continuous power and 400watts of max power.
I'm pretty sure my stereo uses 40watts. Does that mean it should run pretty much without any problems?
Is your stereo powered through an external AC/DC converter? i.e., is there a small black box that plugs into both the wall and your system, or does the power cord come directly out of the stereo? The reason I ask is that those little black boxes convert the 120V AC into (typically) 12V DC. If that is the case, you can skip the converter and power the stereo directly since the battery is about 12V.
