Great season man.
Another Prefontaine win, another USA title, "Joined the 1:43 Club," made WC Final, in the mix with 50 to go, 6th in the world.
Another great step forward!

Could he throw any more elbows and his weight around though?!
He was literally pushing anyone who tried to move up past him and thowing elbows everywhere for the entire race.
Fair enough he wanted to be up front and in the mix at the bell, but throwing elbows as much as he was i thought was unnecessary and if he'd done much more i'm pretty sure he would have run the risk of being DQ'd. He sent half the field flying when he deliberately moved out into the edge of lane 2 with around 450m to go and pushed everyone out the way and wide.
He's a great runner and i acually thought if t was altogether with 200m to go he may be able to kick for the win or at least a medal, but he was being far to aggressive for my liking.
This man competed at teh Baby Nationals!!
Total BS. Americans always get pushed around in these things and it's absolutely wonderful to see someone who isn't going to roll over for the Europeans, Africans, Russians, etc. Kick some ass and you will win next time, Nick.
Are you watching AW ?
Same goes for you.
If only Mulaudzi had won at Pre.
What are you talking about? He was defending his position like he is supposed to do. Go explain about something else you sissy......Rubbing is racing
You pbut "he was being far to aggressive for my liking."
What a frickin' wuss. It is attitudes like yours that gives runners absolutely no chance to win. Symmonds did exactly what a quality 800 meter runner needs to do to compete at this level. Good on you, Nick!!!
At least he's a U.S. runner who tries to win. I'm glad he was aggressive. No more B.S. Yes, he faded at the end, so be it. Teg and Solinsky had the slow pace taylor-made for their liking and they didn't even try to win, same with Kara Goucher.
Props to Symmonds for trying to win. It gets tiring seeing these Americans sit back. At one point Teg was in near last and Solinsky never tried to attack the front, despite that the race was won in times they could run.
Real happy Symmonds tried to win.
America's off-season work needs to be in challenging their mind-set. They need to believe they can win races. Symmonds and Lagat believe this, maybe Ritz and Hall. The others? I'm not sure. Teg was more than good enough to medal today and he sat back. Why?

What 5k did you watch? I saw Solinsky near the front the majority of the race. At one point he was second or third and was in front of Bekele. You need to STFU.

Um, did you see Borzakovskiy practically grab Symmonds's arm as he passed him? I thought Symmonds, with his relative upper body strength (as it appears), was being too much of a gentleman when all the jostling started.
He is now the king of North American 800 meter running. Reed has now been unseeded.
Is the magical sub 1:43 far behind?
What is wrong with being the 6th best 800 meter runner in the world today. Imagine this guy came up from DIII. Has DIII US distance runner ever reached these heights?

I totally agree. Living in Eugene, I have seen him race many times and this is not the first time he has thrown elbows and cut people off. Although I'm a fan of Nick, he races far too dirty for my taste.

Oh come on. Reed had been in every major World final from 2005 to 2008, has a World's silver, and an Olympic 4th. Nicky has a ways to go before we crown him King.
at least he WENT for the win; like Lagat did and UNLIKE most of the other American distance runners.

And lets not get ahead of ourselves. If Kaki doesn't fall Symmonds would have been very very hard pressed to even make the final.

EXACTLY.
To the guy complaining about Symmonds' elbows: It p!sses me off that we've gotten shoved around so long... and then you single out Symmonds. Did you even watch the women's 1500M and make the same complaint when our runner got pushed the exact same way??

one of the stupidest posts in a long time on here (and that is saying something). both teg and solinsky were right there with 400m to go. they also ran very smart races, mostly tucked in on the rail right behind the kenyans and former kenyans who busy running in lane 2 and playing games. teg was right there with 200m to go but just couldn't kick with the best kickers on the planet. what race were you watching???
thumbs up for Nick.... wrote:

So Mark Block is going to invoice Nike for their "going for the win bonus" and the IAAF for their "going for the win" prize money?

Agreed. Teg was right there and lost the way a person should lose: Not being quite good enough, and not giving it away. Solinsky was right there with 400M to go... and everyone would agree, he's not any better than that right now. Far as the the 13:17 winning time, the last 4K (10:23) was at sub 13:00 pace. Even for 4K, Chris isn't ready for that pace. Especially considering he ran 13:20 a couple days ago. They did their best, and did ME proud.
