Ethiopian kicked too soon, she was dying. I thought it was her fault.
Just saying.

this is true
the ethiopian girl was tired so the spanish dude has the right elbow her out her way. lol
incredibly unfair!!!! what the hell were the judges thinking about??
She didnt even touch the ethiopian before she felt down, the ethiopian was dying at that time,so she felt and force the spanish to go out the line and even so the spanish catched up and won by far!
the spanish was the strongest today, what a injustice, really sad..
It was obvious from Rodríguez' reaction at the finish that she knew the DQ was coming. So don't try to defend her.

That's the way it looks to me too.
Rodriquez was upset because Burka fell and because of the whistles and boos. That is sad because she ran a great race and she won it fair and square.

This is probably true, although I certainly don't think she intended to knock Burka to the ground. Nevertheless she must have immediately realized that it was her inside move that led to the fall, which would explain why she was so quick to go back and console Burka after the finish.

In a way, yes. It's admirable that Burka had the guts to kick from the front from 650 out, but it backfired. When you're at the front of a hungry pack and suddenly slow down, you're going to get gobbled up, and there is going to be some contact. Especially if you're dancing on a lane line in a manner that suggests someone can go by you on the inside.
After kicking too soon, Burka wasn't going to medal anyway, it's a shame the Spanish athlete got shut out too.
Wish I had a quid for the times I’ve seen a runner squeeze through a gap smaller than that without any repercussions.

She said on TV that she was crying because the stadium became crazy with her even though she didnt touch the ethiopian (actually it's the girl in the outside line Imo) and it's OBVIOUS that she had enough room to pass the DYING ethiopian, what to do that if she was clearly the strongest and risking a DQ?
she didnt touch the ethiopian! the ethiopian moved back on her! There is nothing to argue about cos it's obvious from the replay. (even me during the race thought she touched her, but the back repetition its absolutelly clear mate)

Exactly. Burka went down because she was laboring horribly. It really shouldn't have been more than a shoulder brush.
we need links, ideally slomo links.
From what i saw it was a difficult call
notice IAAF site no event report yet.
great case study.
here you go:
Incredible, she didnt even touch the ethiopian! track and field has been largely tarnished today. No words to say how must she feel.
worthy for a double post from other thread. Please allow. But this is a good case to investigate.

Am i seeing right?
Burka is hitting both Rodriguez and Jamal with her arms spread out??

Did Spain appeal?
Is the infield foot the only reason why she was disqualified by very strict judges (just like they were for US relay??)

That should not be the case, as she was pushed by Burka.
Also I think it would have to be 3 steps.
at first i thought it was a definite DQ for the Spaniard. After watching from this angle it just looks like a fantastic piece of drama by the Ethiopian.
I had no interest in either Ethiopian or Spaniard. Watching the replay it was easy to see that the disqualification was justified.
Berliner,
Correct. Appears Burka brushed both Jamal and Rodriguez. In fact Jamal had as much to do with the Ethiopian falling as Rodriguez, and that is to say, not much in either case. If in fact Rodriguez was charging through a small gap and pushing Burka out of the way then why step on the infield. Stepping on the infield can be grounds for a DQ if she was not pushed, but it appears she WAS pushed, or at least impeded by Burka. Athletes have been pushed into the infield before, fallen, gotten up and caried on.
No way Rodriguez should be DQed.
There's no question that Rodriguez should have been disqualified. It was clear from the video replays that she pushed Burka over. Anybody who thinks otherwise is either deluding themselves or extremely stupid.
From the replay, it appeared that the Ethiopian was holding her line (um curve?) in a consistent manner and was not attempting to block out the trailing runner.
If you're the trailing runner, it's your responsibility to make sure you've got enough room to move through a gap. The Spainard didn't, an unfortunate event happened, and she was rightfully DQed for what happened.
