It's unfortunate that it was decided this way, but Rowbury gets the bronze.

NO it's not.
Geleta was well placed for a medal, (perhaps). WE might never know but she was leading with 250m to go.
Then, Rodriguez pushes her with no space to go through. It even seems like she pushed her to make way.
come on NS, gap was sizeable. Rodriguez deserves benefit of doubt
My statement that it was unfortunate had to do with it being an unfortunate way to get the bronze medal, via a nasty fall and a subsequent DQ, rather than placing 3rd in a cleanly run race. This is to take nothing away from Shannon personally, since it was just a messy situation that was entirely out of her hands.
It looked to me like Burka was running wide of the pole in lane one. That's dangerous as it is like an invitation to pass on the inside. When Rodriquez tried to squeeze through on the inside, that also is dangerous, especially as one nears the entrance of a curve.
Both runners got burned. Had Burka not been knocked to the ground Rodriquez most likely would not have been dq'd. But when the lead runner goes down, flags go up.
Burka was dying, her lead had been shot, she was moving out to the 2nd lane, bumped into Jamal, and then moved back on on Rodriquez.
It looked bad, that Jamal got squeezed in between then went down but it was her own doing, not the fault of the other two runners. Jamal was slowing and would not have placed in top 6.
It looks to me that Rodriquez was dq'd on appearances. She should be reinstated on appeal, not dq'd. Compare this to the 800 semis where the Holland runner took out Kaki, then was incredibly advanced to the final!

You're getting your names mixed up. You meant to say that Burka got squeezed and went down, not Jamal.

You are a definite moron. Rodriguez deserved her DQ - NO ONE knows how Burka would have finished, least of all an idiot like you.
Kaki fell over his own two feet, that's why Som was advanced - the officials got both right. Maybe they happen to be better at their jobs than you would be - given your myopic perspective. You must be American.
If you paid attention Rodriguez did not delibrately shove Burka. Rodriguez was in lane one and Burka was moving close in lane two and kinda forced her onto the rail. Rodriguez put her arm up to fend off Burka and even stepped onto the infield for one step, an immediate DQ. Even if Burka had not gone down, Rodriguez was gonna face DQ for stepping off the track. Burka falling was unfortunate but she fell because she got squeezed between Rodriguez and Jamal. She got caught in traffic.

I meant to say Burka, obviously, was slowing and would not have placed in top 6.

Yikes I should have proof read.

You are wrong. Being forced off the track isn't grounds for DQ.

Stepping to the inside is not grounds for an automatic DQ but doing so in order to pass someone on the inside when there is otherwise not room is.
Whether or not the contact was intentional is irrelevant. The Spaniard did not have enough space to pass cleanly. She probably had a small space for a small time but it closed before she had established position.
It's not a huge disgrace. The Spanish woman made an aggressive move and if Burka had not fallen she probably would have gotten away with it. Rodriguez showed that she was in good form and probably would have contested the gold with Burka and Jamal.
Just a shame it had to be decided in this way.

That is not true. Look at the replays.
Rodriquez was COMPLETELY on the inside of Burka, when Burka spread her arms and tried to stop both Rodriguez and Jamal.
She succeeded impeding Rodriguez, who had to put a step to the side and stop, losing her momentum, and then Jamal fell, of her own doing. It is amazing that Rodriguez was able to speed up again and win the race for the victory. She won and is deserving of the gold medal for her race.
If you watch the Barcelona 92 olympic final, Cacho (also from spain), does the exact same thing. Fortunately for him, the kenyan who was leading, did not try and dut back down him him (as Burka did to Rodriguez).
I beleive the Rodriguez moved into open space (after burka moved wide), then Burka was at fault when trying to cut back down to block Rodriguez. The officials will never see it this way though.
The regrettable thing is that it appeared that Rodriguez had enough left to win it even by going around the leaders.
It seems that a lot of people failed to observe Rodriguez giving Burka the hard low forearm shove that knocked her off balance and caused her to spread her arms as she fell. Watch a little more NBA dudes to learn those tricks.
Lets get some things clear people. Here is what the IAAF rules states: "Any competing athlete who jostles or obstructs another athlete, so as to impede his progress, shall be liable to disqualification from the event".
So now that we know the rules, we can make a ruling. This is the way I see it. Rodriguez was clearly behind Burka so Burka has the right away. If Rodriguez tries a bold move like she did and pass on the inside, she is not allowed to impede Burka. Rodriguez clearly gave Burka a shove and she even moved her out of the way impeding Burka's progress. This is clearly a foul and the DQ is justified. This one is a no brainer.

You're looking at a replay from one camera angle, and the worst one at that. If you watch the replays from the camera directly in front of the athletes, you will clearly see that Burka obstructed Jamal and Rodriguez before tripping all over herself, before shoving and nearly taking out Rodriguez on her way down. 100% Burka's fault.
